Revision as of 23:48, 26 February 2005

Please do not add recent vandalism to this section. Add new alerts under current alerts. This section lists users or IP addresses that are not necessarily vandalising right now, but have vandalised in the past, and to whom special circumstances apply. Please add new active alerts below under current alerts and sign and date your entry with ~~~~.

Please list articles that are chronic targets for vandalism at Wikipedia:Most vandalized pages.

210.0.177.84 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) Vandal edits since beginning of history 8 months ago. Has been warned many times and blocked for short periods of time. Should it be blocked for some months? permanently? --Marianocecowski 08:09, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

24.69.255.205 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) Vandalized again. As he has done many times in the past. See his talk-page! See the revision of the article "Xenu" 01:56, 19 Feb 2005. IMO, he should be banned, because he was warned enough! --Eleassar777 13:49, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

GNAA

24.73.149.165 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) The GNAA have written a script called "Wikimolestia" to add minor errors to various articles. So far, it messes up grammar in a fairly obvious manner and changes random numbers. It first ran from 24.73.149.165 - see its contribs for an idea of how the script works. User:Rdsmith4/Sig 21:06, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

81.89.192.140 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) too. User:Rdsmith4/Sig 21:13, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

66.0.239.178

All edits are to Javier Solana (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) or its Talk page, all edits are vandalism. RickK 23:58, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC)

205.188.117.7, 64.12.117.7, 152.163.101.7

Please be watchful of these users and ban while they are vandalizing like today Feb. 3rd, and they have been banned in the past. Apollomelos 23:45, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

195.7.3.182

195.7.3.182 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) Only shows up about once a month, but replaces an entire article with a massive page of spam links. Has no valid edits. RickK 21:59, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)

212.23.3.151, 212.23.3.153, 212.23.3.155, Fred4321

Kiddies, often engaged in "conversations", vandalizing random pages since about a year. Only very few very minor real contributions (= typos) from these IPs. Only these three IPs where used. No other IPs from the range 212.23.3.140 - 212.23.3.165 have been used at wikipedia. Might be related to User:Communist Bob, User:46alpha, and User:Wereon (the latter one is fixing typos). Cacycle 16:50, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

193.230.222.76

All 14 contributions since December 2004 were vandalism (replacing whole articles with viagra-like drug spam). Everything has been reverted. Candidate for a permanent ban because the IP seems not to be a dial-in. Cacycle 13:21, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

62.171.194.36

All of this user's edits seem to have been vandalism. I have just corrected vandalism that the user made 6 days ago. RickK 09:39, Jan 17, 2005 (UTC)

This guy has done nothing but vandalize pages for 2 years now. Please ban him. Kaldari 21:42, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

62.171.194.0 - 62.171.195.255 belongs to ifl.net, a web access provider for schools in the UK. Only a few IPs from this range have contributed, but of those that have, the vast majority of edits are vandalism. I didn't check all 512 IPs (stopped after ...194.60, when the last IP with contributions was ...194.45). Lupo 12:37, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • Watch out for this guy. His new User page indicates that he's planning massive upcoming vandalism, in concert with other people. RickK 21:59, Jan 15, 2005 (UTC)
Since he is a manifest reincarnation of a hard-banned user, I've blocked him indefinitely. User:Rdsmith4/sig 01:02, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
He's back as User:82.194.62.17. User:Anárion/sig 15:53, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
That's a Batelco IP in Bahrain. User IP or open proxy? -- The Anome 20:15, Jan 29, 2005 (UTC)
Yes that is indeed a proxy.
He vandalised Polish Wikipedia yesterday. [1] (How to vandalize Wikipedia) 81.168.225.212 11:44, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)
He posted messages saying that User:Fvw, User:RickK and User:David Gerard were puppet admins of himself on his user page. Apparantly, he wants them to be banned because they did something to him. Bart133 20:31, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

In the space of half an hour this user has moved over a hundred pages from xyz to xyz on willys!. This is now being laboriously reversed. He's been blocked for 24 hours but I think it's pretty clear he has no intention whatsoever of ever making useful contributions. -- ran (talk) 15:40, Jan 29, 2005 (UTC)

Don't bother with the 24-hour wrist-slapping: indefinite blocks on all reincarnations (see Wikipedia:List of banned users). User:Rdsmith4/Sig 22:32, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Back as User:The_REAL_Willy_on_Wheels, perhaps? Appears to have moved Megalith to Megawilly (William M. Connolley 16:28, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)).

  • Alert User:Wind_up_Willy_on_Wheels is moving articles to "Wind up" and the old name. User contributions speak for themselves.
    • I've fixed them ... Curps blocked him a moment ago. About a dozen redirects need to be deleted. Antandrus 23:07, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)

66.152.221.166.

  • This user seems to like to repeatedly drop nonsense sexual references into articles.

  • This IP is a transparent proxy running the Bess content-filtering system for the entire Maine State Library Network, covering most Maine elementary, junior-high, and high schools. Banning this IP affects at least one user in a dormitory at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics. However, there is recurring vandal that uses this IP as well. - UtherSRG 04:47, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

Sollog

  • user:64.191.63.213 is a known anon open proxy which has been used by Sollog sockpuppets as well as others to vandalize wiki pages. Wyss 22:34, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
In the past, Sollogites appear to have operated from Kinko's (e.g. 63.164.145.85, which is currently blocked); Starbucks using T-Mobile addresses (e.g. 208.54.95.129, also blocked at the moment); and anonymous proxies (e.g. 64.191.63.213, which belongs to http://www.surffreedom.com/ ); and potentially, from public libraries, public wifi networks, and open proxies. Most of the attacks appear to have originated from Atlanta, Georgia and from northeastern Broward county in southern Florida, possibly Pompano Beach, Florida and/or Lighthouse Point, Florida. Sollogites share a similar writing style, using UPPER case for emphasis. The Sollog article has an interesting past, having been created by 65.34.173.202, vigorously defended by Sollogites during a vote for deletion which resulted in a consensus to keep, vandalized, protected, unprotected, and ultimately opposed by the user who created it, resulting in a streak of vandalism today. --MarkSweep 22:44, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Please stop linking Sollog in our user pages? I'd rather Google didn't pick up on all the controversy...Mackensen (talk) 01:26, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Sollog is repeatedly attacking both the article and the talk page through a variety of IP addresses, which I suspect are those of unsecured proxy servers. I suggest that sysops should block these proxies indefinitely, as permitted and encouraged by Wikipedia:Blocking policy. -- ChrisO 00:35, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Anyone who doesn't know how to spot open proxies might want to look over User:Mirv/Open proxies. —No-One Jones 00:44, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Frontpage was just replaced with a Sollog article. Suggest that more thorough action be taken. Report these actions to the ISPs? Sockatume 00:06, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Also, I'm editing this at a public library at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I'm not evil. :) —tregoweth 19:43, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)
  • This may seem odd, but if we could somehow read the forums at http://wwwDOTwikipediasucksDOTcom, then we might be able to see what Sollogites will vandalize next. Bart133 18:44, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • A proxy used by the Calgary Board of Education, possibly specific to Henry Wise Wood High School. All internet access fromthat school (and possibly others in Calgary) schools Calgary in is routed through this IP address. The 'pedia is apparently a frequent target for vandalism from assorted students in the school, but many others are valid contributors. Do not block this IP for more than a few hours at a time, and be sure to explain the shared IP situation to the students thereof. -- Grunt 🇪🇺 17:55, 2004 Dec 7 (UTC)
  • We need a temporary ban on this IP, for a week at least. The amount of vandalism is STAGGERING. Terrapin 20:49, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • I concur. There are some worthy edits, but they're vandalizing the wiki at an incredible rate. Phils 20:48, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • I also agree. I'd like to point out that anyone banned from editing at school could still use the wiki for informational purposes, just not edit. They could always visit a public library, or use a home computer, if they truly want to edit on wikipedia. But this has to stop. -GregNorc (talk)
  • Vandalism of pop art today, several other pages on 14th, including one subtle one which had been missed. I also reverted an edit on Adam Smith which whilst not outright vandalism was heavy POV dropped into a section out of context. Given final warning. -- Solipsist 21:17, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • Still vandalising - blanked James Watt yesterday. Now blocking for 24hrs - Solipsist 19:23, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • The vandal business on that IP stills seems to be booming. Something should be done. Phils 22:25, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

  • This IP address belongs to a school (which school has never been stated). If we're going to block, make it no more than a half-hour at a time so other students can also get a chance to edit articles in their lunch break, whatever. - Ta bu shi da yu 15:09, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
seems to be in Scotland.
If I run an IP search, I get Amsterdam, Netherlands as a result, not Scotland. Mgm|(talk) 22:24, Dec 4, 2004 (UTC)
The IP search in that case only tells you that it falls within a huge set of IPs assigned to Ripe NCC (217.*.*.*) which is based out of Amsterdam. They further assign IPs to other places. If you go to the Ripe site and search for it, it comes up as part of a group assigned to "Western Education and Library Board" in Belfast. DreamGuy 13:57, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
Not belfast - it's likely somewhere in Scotland - doing a traceroute from a belfast server, it went out through blfs-t2core-b-pos45.inet.ntl.com (213.105.205.137), then on through the rest of the UK on to mspaccess1-gig0-0-0.edinburgh.fixed.bt.net (62.6.199.8) and 62.172.37.2 before disappearing --PdDemeter 20:32, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • It is St. Colman's College, Newry. See User Talk:217.33.82.4 some idiot gave a positive ID for it in a recent whole-article bit of vandalism. And they screamed it out on Jan 14 - check this diff page - need I say more? - RHaworth 10:01, 2005 Jan 23 (UTC)
  • Has vandalised about a dozen articles since November and has had repeated warnings. Lumos3 11:35, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • This is a K12 school IP (see User:205.222.240.2) that has repeatedly vandalized Wikipedia and been warned numerous times and blocked in the past. However, legitimate contributions have been made from the IP address. – flamuraiTM 01:07, Feb 3, 2005 (UTC)

"Pelican shit" and "bugger" vandal, possibly Willy on Wheels

This person seems to be on a mission to Google bomb the phrase "pelican shit", and creates patent nonsense articles that use this phrase repeatedly.

He usually creates new usernames that begin with the nonprinting character %8F, such as %8FMajor_A (talk | contributions), and several other similar accounts previously.

It's easy to detect and delete his handiwork just by looking for pages that link to "pelican shit". He may also be using Category:Pelican shit.

He also seems to be the person responsible for adding the word "bugger" recently into various templates, including Template:VfD, Template:Delete and Template:Unencyclopedic. I thought these were two separate vandals, but the "Unencyclopedic" vandalism seems to link the two types of vandalism. Template:VfD has now been protected, since it gets subst'd and it's a hassle to go and fix the individual VfD pages.

As a general note, it probably wouldn't hurt to have as many people as possible have as many major templates as possible in their watchlists. Maybe go to Wikipedia:Template messages and find a few templates to adopt and watch over. Especially in the Wikipedia:Template_messages/Deletion and Wikipedia:Template_messages/Disputes and Template:Cleanup_tags areas.

How do I block him? I'm trying to block one of his accounts, [8] but I can't seem to do it. Rhobite 23:18, Feb 11, 2005 (UTC)
I blocked him just now. You have to cut and paste the actual character string (funny nonprinting characters and all) into the box. Just typing in %8FBugblatter into the box won't do. -- Curps 02:02, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Blocked Zipfiddle under same category type of vandal. -- AllyUnion (talk) 03:52, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
In response to several recent blankings and "buggers", I already have ... clickety ... eight cleanup/deletion templates in my watchlist. ☺ From the number of times that I've been beaten to the punch in reverting, I suspect that several others have done the same. Uncle G 05:31, 2005 Feb 13 (UTC)

"pelican shit" guy is confirmed to be the "bugger" guy: Special:Contributions/%8FAguilator. I think we need to find out from the developers what IP addresses he uses, at this point. Rhobite 08:17, Feb 13, 2005 (UTC)

It might be a good idea for the software to apply Unicode Normalization Form NFKC before registering usernames. That would stop these silly games. -- The Anome 14:47, Feb 13, 2005 (UTC)

For his latest stunt, "pelican shit" guy pulled a Willy on Wheels, only with "... covered in pelican shit!" instead. What a versatile guy. Maybe he is WoW, or running the same script. Any developers working on that page-move rollback functionality request? -- Curps 21:03, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm, apparently, "a long streak of pelican shit" means "a very tall and thin person" in Australian slang. [9]. Google hits on "pelican shit" are usually of this form. -- Curps 22:17, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

See talk page for reply from "Pelican shit" guy (he denies being a Willy on Wheels vandal)

(Maybe what RickK objects to is using this page as a Talk page, so I've moved the discussion to Talk instead) -- Curps 17:51, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Um? Did I object to something? RickK 08:03, Feb 26, 2005 (UTC)

Mr. Suffix (Neologisms)

Mr. Suffix edits anonymously, usually from IPs beginning with 69.209, 69.208, and 69.215. Appears to be an Ameritech DSL customer in Wisconsin. He creates neologism articles by taking a word and appending a suffix such as "icle", "polis", or "phobia". See Mikkalai's warning from 13 Feb 2005, titled "69.2xx.xxx.xxx". He's been warned multiple times and continues to create bogus articles. At this point, please block his IP (or post a note here, or let me know) if you catch him in the act. A partial list of his contributions follows (please add new ones to this list). Rhobite 04:29, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)

69.209.186.53 blocked for creating Contrighway. Need to check Special:Contributions/69.209.186.53 for additional vandalism when this functionality is restored. Rhobite 23:49, Feb 22, 2005 (UTC)
