Cheaper by the Dozen is an upcoming American family-comedy film. A remake of the 1950 film of the same name, the project was inspired by the real life Gilbreth family and the semi-autobiographical account of their lives as written in the 1948 novel Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. and his sister Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. The film will be directed by Gail Learner with a script co-written by Kenya Barris and Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, produced by 20th Century Studios and distributed by Disney+.

Premise

The two parents live with their many children from their previous marriages and manage a family business in New Jersey.

In 2016, it was reported that Kenya Barris would work with Fox on a new project known as Cheaper by the Dozen.[1] On August 6, 2019, following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that a reboot of Cheaper by the Dozen was in development and that it would premiere on the company's streaming service, Disney+.[2][3] Gail Lerner was set to direct the film with a script co-written by Kenya Barris and Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry,[4] and Regina Hall was in talks to join the cast in April 2020.[5] Principal photography was scheduled to commence on July 13, 2020 in Los Angeles, California.[6] After filming was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney's new CEO Bob Chapek announced that filming had resumed in November 2020.[7] The film was revealed at the Disney Investors Day, along with the casting of Gabrielle Union.[8][9] In January 2021, Zach Braff joined the cast.[10][11][12][13][14] In February 2021, Journee Brown, Kyle Rogers, Andre Robinson, Caylee Blosenski, Aryan Simhaldri, Leo A. Perry, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christian Cote, Sebastian Cote, and Luke Prael joined the cast as the pair's children.[15] Erika Christensen would be added to the cast in April.[16]

Filming had begun in Los Angeles by April 2021.[17]

Release

It is scheduled to be released in March 2022 on Disney+.[15][18]
