Exclaves of administrative counties

Pondering whether to add the Lees Urban District here. were there any more exclaves of administrative counties, that weren't exclaves of geographic counties as well? (i can't spot any) Morwen - Talk 21:21, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There might have been something in the Black Country? I'm trying to figure out if anywhere was cut off by a county borough...Lozleader 09:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There'a a map in the Times in 1962ish showing the county boroughs as they existed and the new plan for contigous county boroughs: it appears not. Morwen - Talk 09:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Depending on where West Bromwich's boundaries were, Smethwick UD/MB up to 1907 might have been cut off from the rest of Staffordshire?
Did Stockport CB cut off Longdendale/Stalybridge/Dukinfield? Lozleader 09:54, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The latter - no Marple maintained a bridge of Cheshire through to southern Tameside. The former - gah, can't remember - need to check that map - as the area of Smethwick or West Bromwich hadn't changed substantially before then. Yes, Smethwick was entirely surrounded by West Bromwich to the north, Birmingham to the east, and Worcestershire to the south and west. Morwen - Talk 10:03, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kent

North Woolwich needs to be listed here as well, although I'm not sure of its exact status. Andrew Gwilliam (talk) 16:31, 10 July 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Is it an exclave? Over what other county do you have to pass in order to get to either of its two parts? Roger 8 Roger (talk) 21:48, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lancashire

It is mentioned that Flintshire was the only county with detached parts immediately before the 1974 changes but what about Furness and Cartmel in Lancashire does that not cou t

The changes were to local government structure, not to historic county boundaries. That accounts for the confused description by an earlier editor, or possibly a short description that needs to be longer so as to clarify what exactly was happening to the various areas concerned. Words like 'transfer' and 'county' can be misleading at times. Yes, you are of course correct. Roger 8 Roger (talk) 09:47, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
