Josh Stein (born May 3, 1973) is an American businessman and venture capitalist. He is a managing partner at Threshold Ventures (formerly DFJ)[1] and was featured in the Forbes Midas List in 2013, 2014 and 2015 in recognition of his accomplishments as an investor.[2] He was also the recipient of the 2015 Deloitte Fast 500 Venture Capitalist of the Year award.[3] Stein holds board responsibilities at Box (company),[4] Chartbeat,[5] LaunchDarkley,[6] LendKey,[7] Lumity,[8] and Talkdesk[9]—and led Box’s first round of institutional investment.[10] He is also an investor in AngelList,[11] Doximity,[12] Front,[13] Loftium,[14]Periscope Data[15] acquired by Sisense,[16] and Rippling,.[17]

Education and early career

Stein earned an M.B.A from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and his B.A. from Dartmouth College.[18] Prior to joining DFJ, Stein was a co-founder, director and chief strategy officer for ViaFone, a DFJ-backed startup that created of wireless enterprise applications. Stein previously held positions in product management at Microsoft and NetObjects, and was a management consultant in the San Francisco office of The Boston Consulting Group.[19] Stein is a graduate of the Kauffman Fellows Program.[20][21]

Stein joined Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) in 2004.[21] His previous investments include Redfin,[22] Twilio,[23] SugarCRM,[24] Swell (acquired by Apple),[25] Eventful (acquired by CBS Local),[26] GoodGuide (acquired by UL),[27] iList (acquired by IGN/News Corp),[citation needed] Polaris Wireless (strategic recapitalization),[28] Yammer (acquired by Microsoft),[29] and Yardbarker (acquired by Fox Sports Interactive).

He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Crystal Springs Uplands School[30] and the Stanford GSB Trust.[1]
