Jack Lord was in Project X. It was his first role. It is a different film from the Red Menace. The Red Menace is not known as The Red Menace aka Project X. Project X was released in October of 1949. There is no appearance of Jack Lord nor "John Ryan" in The Red Menace (the Independent article claims Lord was "billed as John Ryan" therein). (You can even watch the full movie on youtube[2].) Lord starred, as you said, in Project X (1949) aka Red Bait, and not The Red Menace (1949) aka Underground Spy. (Perhaps the Independent writer confused Red Bait/Red Menace, two similarly sounding, anti-Communist films that were both released in the same year?)
