Jebel Ali (Arabic:جبل علي), also called Jabal Ali, is a large area of the Emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates . It consists of a collection of community which belong to the Sector 5 in southern Dubai along the coast of the Persian Gulf.

Territory

The territory occupies an area of 510.9 km²[1] in South West Dubai, approximately 40 km from downtown Dubai.

The area is bounded on the north by Blue Waters Island Street and Garn Al Sabkha Street (D 59), on the east by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E 311), on the southwest by Seih Shuaib Street and Al Maktoum Airport Street.

The area is made up of six communities:

  • Jabal Ali First (community code 591),[2] residential community in the northern area;
  • Jabal Ali Second (community code 592),[3]residential community in a coastal area;
  • Jabal Ali Third (community code 593),[4] residential community in a coastal area;
  • Jabal Ali Industrial First (community code 599),[5] industrial community in northern area;
  • Jabal Ali Industrial Second (community code 518),[6] industrial community in central area;
  • Jabal Ali Industrial Third (community code 516),[7], sometimes referred to as Dubai Technology Park or National Industries Park (NIP), industrial community in the south.

Another landmark of the area is the Ibn Battuta Gate, a mix of commercial and residential buildings opposite the Ibn Battuta Mall which features apartments, offices and a hotel called Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate.

The Jebel Ali Free Zone, created in 1985, extends for about 57 km2 on both sides of the Skeikh Zayed Road and is accessible through a series of gates with controlled access.[8] Jebel Ali Free Zone is one of largest free zones in the world specializing in industry, commerce and logistics. Jafza is home to over 8,700 companies that contribute 23.8% of Dubai's GDP while generating $104.2 billion in annual business value.

The area is served by the Red Line of the Metro which runs along the Sheikh Zayed Road route, via the UAE Exchange (ex Jebel Ali), Danube (ex Jebel Ali Industrial), Energy, Ibn Battuta and Jabal Ali (originally Nakheel Harbor & Tower). A second derivation of the Red Line from the Jabal Ali stop enters the community of Jabal Ali First and stops at The Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan. There are also several surface lines that serve the various areas of the area.
