How-To Guide

Updating this list may seem to be complicated, but it is rather simple. The following instructions are very step by step and thus appears longer.

Step 1: A Developer/Publisher (ex. Konami) Announces they are Making a Wii Game
List the name of the Developer/Pubisher and Whatever Known Details on the List of Untitled Wii Projects. Please follow the steps in the how-to guide found on that Talk Page.

Step 2: The Dev/Pub Announces a Title for the Project

  1. Delete the Entry from List of Untitled Wii Projects.
  2. Add it to the List of Wii games it in Alphabetical order, as the default sort is by name. Update whatever Details are Known.
  3. If it does not yet exist, please create the article, or at least a stub, for this title. Be sure that the source link is within the article.
  4. Update the Total Count (found in the introduction) to include this new game.

Step 3: The Dev/Pub Announces a Release Date (ex. October 23, 2007)
Replace {{TBA|2007|Q4}} and change it to {{Dts|23|October|2007}}.

  • Note: Beware of Placeholder Dates that many sites use. Often times if it says a game is to be released on June 30 or December 31st, that doesn't mean that it will be out on that day, but rather they don't know the exact release date. Use Google to verify release dates with different sources.

Notes:

  • Create a stub/article if the title is redlinked (no article created yet). Be sure to include the source link within the game page.
  • Do not leave any entries blank. This makes sorting less effective. If any piece of information is unknown put TBA in that spot.
  • Put 'TBA' under a release date if there is a chance that a game will come out for that specific region. Put 'Unreleased' under a release date if there is a good chance that a game will not come out in that region.
  • Use the 'span style="display:none"' tag to have games that start with 'The' to sort properly. If you don't know what I am talking about, look at the code for The Godfather Blackhand Edition or The Bigs entries
  • Do not add Virtual Console (downloadable) titles to this list. They belong on the Virtual Console list.
  • Keep this list current.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Must the reference be free and online?

Online sources are preferred as they can be easily accessed for reference. If a game has been confirmed in a magazine, chances are a reliable online source will have the information as well. The reference should appear within the game article itself

2. I heard that X Game is coming to the Wii. Can I add it?

The general inclusion guideline states: The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. This means that we only publish material that is verifiable with reference to reliable, published sources. And more specifically: One of the keys to writing good encyclopedia articles is to understand that they should refer only to facts, assertions, theories, ideas, claims, opinions, and arguments that have already been published by reputable publishers. In other words, as long as you can verify it with reliable sources, you may add it.

3. Define a 'Reliable Source'.

This is a tricky subject, as even the most prominent gaming magazines and sites contain much speculation of upcoming games. Here is a general breakdown of reliable sources:
  • Highest Reliability: Press Releases, Developer's/Publisher's Website, Wii.com
  • High Reliability: Famitsu, IGN, GameSpot
  • Good Reliability: GoNintendo, CodeName Revolution, Joystiq, Kotaku
  • Low Reliability: Other Nintendo/Gaming blogs and sites
  • No Reliability: Forums
This list, of course, is not conclusive. If a headline starts with the word 'Rumor', do not add it onto this list until the headline reads 'Confirmed'. Please use your best judgment when adding titles to this list.

4. Game Pages vs. Actual Articles

Please link to the actual page announcing the game, not the game page specific to that game. For example, link to IGN, not to IGN. This is due to the fact that sites often create game pages for speculated releases as well as confirmed releases.

5. The Wii can play games all the way back to the NES/Famicom, so I want to add those games to this list.

Older games are for older systems. Just look and the PlayStation series. PlayStation 3 plays PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, yet none of those are counted as PS3 games. Additionally, the list of Virtual Console games is a separate list and may not be combined.

6. They've announced that they're making a game for the Wii from movie/television show 'X'. How do I properly link the title?

Please put [[X (video game)|X]]. Even if the title is redlinked (no article exists), it shouldn't be linked to the movie article.

7. I've noticed you're missing this game/this date/this detail...

This list is a collaborative effort, and if you feel like you can contribute something, please do in accordance to the guidelines listed above. If you are unsure about something, please browse this talk page and it's archives, and if you're still unsure ask away on this talk page.

WP:VG Assessment

Previous points solved

  • There are some notices for editors on top of the list. Those shouldn't be on top of the list, but as comments in the source of the list or on the talk page.  Done
  • 'Please note that this list is subject to change' is not something to write in this article, but in the Wikipedia disclaimer. (And it's already there.)  Done
  • In general, the list is good, the introduction is not. See List of Nintendo 64 games (a featured list) for a good introduction. Not long, but good.  Done

Remaining issues

I previously wrote:

Short: I'm still not happy with how the references are done. More thorough criticism now than last time, and I hope you all find it constructive.

Long: Two issues with the references on this page remain: style and policy. Style, because the way it's done now may provide users with easy-to-access references, but in an ugly way. There's just too many little arrows and link icons in there now, and together with the mix of red and blue, the title column is a mess. The policy issue is simple: if one would print this page now (for example by including it into a WikiReader or a Pocket Packet, and let someone else read it, that person would not be able to read the references.

Suggestions:

Good: Standard wiki practice these days. Will remove all the arrows and link thingies from the list.
Bad: you'll have a list of 100+ references at the bottom. References will be confusing because release date references and title existence references will be all mixed up.
  • Change 'policy' on this article to only allow existing, referenced, articles to the list, and remove the references, or move them to the articles whenever necessary.
Good: Any game without an article probably shouldn't be on the list anyway. Will clear up all the reference links too.
Bad: The list will be less complete.

The second has my personal preference, but the current situation is not something to continue with IMHO.

New points

  • What's the Exclus column for? I have no idea what it means.
  • One might want to check if there's any other table of contents you can use. For example, rather than just browsing by title (for which CTRL+F is better anyway), one could imagine that a Wii-owner might want to find out which games are coming out around Christmas, and browse to Q4 2007. This is not a remark, just a feature suggestion.

That being said, B-class. --User:Krator (t c) 00:57, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your re-assessment. I'll address a couple things. First, a comment on your suggestion #1 for the citations. I just want to point out that as of right now, the list of citations would be between 300 and 400 citations, which will only grow. This is a bit more than your estimate of 100+. It might be barely workable in the short term, but long term would be no good at all!
For suggestion #2, perhaps another way to phrase the policy is that a requirement for adding a game to the list is that a stub is made for it? My only other thought is that since this list is so attractive for abuse and mis-editing, there is a degree of usefulness for the citations to be part of the entries.
Finally, for your two small points at the end, 'Exclus' is short for Exclusive, although I am not sure why it was shortened. I have fixed that. Second, I thought being able to check which games were coming out around a certain time period was the point of having the list be sortable (among other things). Again, thank you for your time. -Telvin 3d 09:00, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So, what's 'Exclusive' mean in this context then? I'm not into Wii, so it probably is something speficic. Are these limited edition games or something? Explain in the introduction.
Also, making a stub for every article on the list to include the references sounds splendid.
--User:Krator (t c) 15:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Exclusive games are ones that are only released for the Wii and not any other consoles, past or present. -Telvin 3d 21:14, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Krator, once again thank you for your assessment and commments. I will begin moving the source links into the article for those which exist, and create stubs for those which need it. Whoever can please help, I appreciate it. -Digiwrld1 05:39, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've started some help with this - got up to DK Bongo Blast cleared out. Added a few stubs along the way. Will help more when I have more time. Jmeriot 21:00, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Issues/Suggestions

Improvements

A couple improvements that could add value to the page are
  • column showing numbers of players possible (my wife keeps asking me which games more than 1 person can play)
  • another column that could be interesting is whether is needs a nunchuk, etc.
Some interesting ideas. Each of those details, should of course, be within the game article themselves, but I can definitely see some people wanting to find the newest multiplayer game. Your second point, I feel would be better if it is within the game article itself, as that's a very game-specific element. As per the number of players possible, I can see it as a positive thing but am afraid that will clutter the list and make it less presentable. 68.181.225.103 04:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, based upon several suggestions, I've begun work on a Comparison of Wii Games which allows for additional details about Wii games to be listed that couldn't be listed here. Your thoughts are welcome, and any help you can give in completing the list will be most appreciated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Digiwrld1 (talkcontribs) 23:39, 29 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sources Needed

I tried looking for, but could not find, any source saying that Hail to the Chimp and TNA Impact will be coming to the Wii--as of current, they only say that they are coming for Next Generation Consoles. These are the only two games currently that do not have a source in their article that explicitly states that a version for the Wii is in the works. I'm sure that they will be coming, just wanting to make sure that every game in this list is verifiable. -Digiwrld1 00:25, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I found sources. Digiwrld1 19:30, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here We Go Again

  • Our last re-assessment bumped us up to a 'B' rating with 'Low Importance', with our assessor Krator suggesting that we change how we do the reference links. He also brought up concern of what it meant for a game to be 'Exclusive' to the Wii.
  • User Telvin3D suggested that we move each source link that said that game was coming out for the Wii into the article itself, and to create stubs for those games that were still redlinked. A number of contributors worked to make this happen, and I was able to create stubs for the last remaining titles.
  • After some debate as to what it meant to be Exclusive, a one-line sentence has been added to the introduction explaining what qualifies a game to be exclusive.
  • The only issue that has not been addressed is the use of a different TOC, perhaps one browsable by date. But as Telvin 3D pointed out, being able to search by date is the reason we switched to a sortable list format and thus has already been addressed.
  • Are there any issues still remaining? Is there anywhere where we can improve further? I know that everyone here is working to make this FL-status, and so what can we still do?- Digiwrld1 12:42, March 26, 2007 (UTC)
  • I added the Dynamic List template to lead in this list, as clearly more games will be announced for its lifecycle and as such can not be complete at this time.
  • Looking through Krator's re-re-reassessment of this article (to which I'd like to thank him for all of his helpful comments and suggestions to improve the list further), I feel that we have corrected any remaining issues. I went through the list and verified that a source existed for whatever articles needed them. If no one objects, I'd like to resubmit the article for CVG assessment. WP:VG Assessment

  • Almost a spotless page, and I'll hand it A-class for that.
  • Something very small - two games (see below) have been released in Japan in March 2007, yet this list still states the publisher as "to be announced". One of the big dangers of large lists is that they become outdated fast, and this is definitely a risk here. Do not let time catch up with you! The list items in question:
  • G1 Jockey Wii
  • Mezase!! Tsuri Master
  • Upgraded importance to Mid, because Wii was changed to High. I am not sure why this was done to mid/low in the first place.
  • Skip GA - just submit for featured article, but you'll need to ask for a peer review first. If you do this quickly (i.e: this evening) on VG peer review (I don't watch normal peer review), I will have some time to immediately review it.

--User:Krator (t c) 19:24, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Victory! Haha, thanks for your assessment Krator. I will look into those games right now and submit it for peer review soon. To all the contributors here (you know who you are), thanks for all of your hard work. Let's give this the FL push it deserves.Digiwrld1 19:37, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I found out the details for the following games and updated accordingly
  • G1 Jockey Wii  Done
  • Mezase!! Tsuri Master  Done
I also updated various other details throughout the list. I agree with your concern that some of this list (especially concerning the smaller games) may be outdated if not updated in time, but I have faith in the Wikipedia community that we'll keep this list as updated as possible. FL Push

Currently undergoing Peer Review
Please direct your comments/suggestions to the Peer Review linked to at the CVG infobox. Thank you. Digiwrld1 22:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article needs citations for everything that can be challenged (which, in the case of lists, is most material), preferably checked with one or two other sources to ensure verifiability. Otherwise, it might not even pass the Wikipedia:Deletion policy. Format and content looks good, though. — Deckiller 23:31, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Based on strong suggestions from the previous sugestions, all references were moved from the list itself to the individual game pages. [1] is how it looked before. Personaly, i think it was a better referenced article before the links were moved, but the previous reviewers were fairly adament about removing the references to somewhere else. -Telvin 3d 00:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then this cannot be considered for FL status. I'll make a note on the peer review page. — Deckiller 00:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, again, we do not need to see the release dates. The way this list is set up with release dates is a better way - it covers more countries, and takes less space. - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to disagree with converting to the release date system used for the DS list. Yes it takes up less space, but at the cost of actual dates, which are needed for a sortable list such as this. - Jmeriot 17:25, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
