Jorge A Zapata is a Mexican-American architect and art patron based in New York City. He was born in San Diego, California and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. He studied Architecture at NewSchool of Architecture and Design and Yale University, where he was awarded the Charles O. Matcham Scholarship. He is the principal of JAZ Architect and the founding President of the Williamsburg Biannual, an arts organization housed in the Kent Avenue Arts Center[1] that he designed. Jorge A Zapata attended NewSchool of Architecture and Desgn in San Diego, California, USA, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelors of Architecture, before attending graduate school at the Yale University School of Architecture for his Master of Architecture. At Yale, Zapata was awarded the Charles O. Matcham Scholarship upon his graduation in 2001.

Prior to his architecture studies, Zapata received a Diplôme de Langue et de Culture Françaises at L’Université Catholique de L’Ouest in Angers, France.

In 2015, Zapata was named NewSchool’s Alumni of the Year[4] in recognition of his body of architectural work.[5]

From 2012 to 2018, he co-founded and practiced under a firm named DIAD Architecture. JAZ Architect[7] is a full service Architecture firm with projects ranging from cultural, residential, and commercial buildings to interiors and furniture design.

His previous roles include working as a junior architect at Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects (1995-1998); a project architect/job captain at 1100 Architect (2002-2005).

Zapata is a New York State licensed architect, and is National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certified.
