Thanks a lot for your kind words and helpful suggestions! GoldRomean (talk) 23:33, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

I noticed that you've been editing some health-related articles recently. A bunch of us hang out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. It's a good place to ask questions about good sources for medical content and appropriate writing style. Please consider putting the page on your watchlist, or stop by to say hello some time. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:57, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have no specific interest in medicine, although I am fascinated by biology. I mostly just edit what Wikipedia recommends, which I guess is a lot of health-related stuff. I checked the WikiProject out and it seems like a very nice community. I'll definitely explore it some more when I have a bit more time. Cheers and thanks :D! GoldRomean (talk) 23:25, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that subject has been dominating some of the recommended tasks recently. It seems to vary over time. Some time there's no particular theme. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:12, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting! GoldRomean (talk) 01:35, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HI!!!

why can I not adopt a user??? 😕 Lilly is cool (talk) 17:24, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, you can, but you should probably gain more experience before trying to help others. I really appreciate your enthusiasm, though! GoldRomean (talk) 17:26, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WAIT... I can??? Lilly is cool (talk) 17:29, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One of the rules of the Adopt-a-user page is that "Adopters should have sufficient experience before they start adopting," so I wouldn't recommend that you do so. If you really want to help new users (even though you really are one), you can place welcome messages on new users' pages with the appropriate template like I did on your talk page. Also, please try not to edit other users' user pages. GoldRomean (talk) 17:31, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh... well you just made me sad... Lilly is cool (talk) 17:35, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry. Continue to productively edit Wikipedia, and once you familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's guidelines more and get to 500 edits and 90 days, you can enroll in the mentorship program, which, as opposed to the Adopt-a-user program, is for brand new users. You can also visit the Teahouse and help out new users with any questions they may have, and consider playing the Wikipedia Adventure. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 17:57, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help pls

I need help, i don't know where I can get user boxes and/or make my own, so I need help... Lilly is cool (talk) 18:23, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This user is a lesbian.
Lilly is cool (talk) 18:38, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm unable to access a compute right now, so I can't provide links or anything. If you search up Wikipedia Userboxes, you should find a page that gives you information on them and gives you a list of them and info on how to create them. Just copy the squiggly bracket stuff into your user page {{like this}} (be sure to use source editor, not visual editor) and it should appear. I'll get back to you in a bit if you need clarification or anything. Cheers! GoldRomean (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meant "{{like this}}". GoldRomean (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever. I'll figure it out later. GoldRomean (talk) 21:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I got it. To make a userbox, you should probably use the userbox maker. If you want to find other userboxes, go here, where you can find different collections of userboxes sorted by topic. So, say I want a userbox about my involvement in Wikipedia. I might go to this, find this, and then this. If I wanted to use the first userbox on the page, "This user is a Wikipedian", I would take the Wikitext, "{{User wikipedia}}", and copy that into my user page (using SOURCE editor, not VISUAL editor), and it would show
This user is a Wikipedian.
. Hope that helps. GoldRomean (talk) 22:21, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lilly is cool I am willing to help you make a userbox. What should it be about? 48JCLTALK 20:15, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Deep0322 (21:36, 13 May 2024)

hi everyone.. I'm Deep Kumar from india live in japan I'm here go to tell you about Japan and japanese language and about Culture. --Deep0322 (talk) 21:36, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! While I'm glad that you're enthusiastic about Wikipedia, please remember that Wikipedia is not a social networking site. Maybe try improving some articles about Japan instead? Check out the Manual of Style and other editing guidelines, and then consider joining WikiProject Japan. Question from Jdlentini on Jeffrey Dahmer (21:40, 13 May 2024)

Hello. I’d like to add on Jeffrey Dahmer’s page that he raped two soldiers when he was in the military. They’ve come out and spoken about it in a documentary. --Jdlentini (talk) 21:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jdlentini If the documentary is reliable (and, possibly, if you can find other reliable sources), be bold and go for it! Just make sure you use citations with reliable sources. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 21:48, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ruth Bader Yinzburg (23:24, 17 May 2024)

Hi! I was looking at Veronica Chambers’ page, and it says it needs a cite about her role at Hearst. There isn’t much out there, but I found a NYT press release : https://www.nytco.com/press/veronica-chambers-joins-archival-storytelling-team/ that addresses it. But press releases aren’t typically considered good sources, right? --Ruth Bader Yinzburg (talk) 23:24, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ruth Bader Yinzburg Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, they usually aren't. Since the issue here isn't really controversial, you could use it, especially since the one you found is from the NYT, although better sources would be more preferable (although you're right, there really aren't that many regarding her). The last source used in that article, from InkWell Management Literary Agency, also mentions her role in Hearst and could also be added to that section. You can see WP:PRSOURCE for more info. Hope that helps. On a different note, thanks for your consistently constructive edits to Wikipedia! GoldRomean (talk) 19:42, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to add a photo in a page? --Frenchybal (talk) 10:42, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Umeshkoli1 (04:58, 24 May 2024)

Hi Gold,

Hope this email finds you well.

I'm Umesh, with over 20 years of experience in IT. My background includes certifications in security (CISM, CISA) and project management (PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL Master). I'm also well-versed in DevOps and SAFe methodologies.

I'm excited to connect as your mentee and learn from your expertise. I'm particularly interested in contributing to improving the accuracy of IT-related articles on Wikipedia.

I understand edits require specific formats and sources, and I'd love to discuss how I can best utilize my knowledge to enhance Wikipedia's content.

Looking forward to connecting further!

Best, Umesh --Umeshkoli1 (talk) 04:58, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May 2024 GOCE drive award

The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
This barnstar is awarded to GoldRomean for copy edits totaling over 8,000 words (including bonus and rollover words) during the GOCE May 2024 Backlog Elimination Drive. Congratulations, and thank you for your contributions! Dhtwiki (talk) 09:02, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! GoldRomean (talk) 13:12, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhtwiki I have a question: Say I somehow managed to copy-edit 100 articles and make it onto the leaderboard. Will this be automatically/manually changed or do I have to change the leaderboard myself? GoldRomean (talk) 13:34, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maintaining the leaderboard is the responsibility of the editors who deserve a place there, although the accomplishments of editors who haven't been doing so for themselves are apt to recorded anyway, especially if an overly modest editor has copy edited 100 articles. Lesser accomplishments are more likely to go unnoticed. I'm not entirely sure whether the software we usually use to calculate the barnstars would catch such omissions. Dhtwiki (talk) 23:29, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. GoldRomean (talk) 11:23, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you!

Thanks for helping out the people on my talk page, I'm very busy at the moment so I'm just not around to answer the questions much, and your help is appreciated. Thanks :)

Thank you so much for sending me my very first WikiLove! Apologies for not asking first though, but I saw other editors help each other out on their talk pages so I thought it'd be okay. And I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope things turn out alright. GoldRomean (talk) 19:31, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stephen Turnbull

In re the movie 47 Ronin, as I noted, if the games he worked on are worthy of being mentioned as ever so successful, as they are, it is equally worthy to mention that the movie was seriously panned by critics, aggregation sites such as Metacritic, etc. As is noted on the page of the movie itself. 2001:9B0:46:0:0:0:B4D5:2BCD (talk) 22:05, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@2001:9B0:46:0:0:0:B4D5:2BCD: That's fine; however, if you want to add that information, you need to also provide a reliable source. GoldRomean (talk) 22:08, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So the already existing information on the page of the game isn't a reliable source? That would sort of make all of wikipedia useless, then. Not to mention that I thought that wikipedia was supposed to not be an "advertisement", and so including that the games are successful, while inferring that it's due to Turnbull, is hardly a neutral point of view but rather a call to use him, see how wonderful his work is. 2001:9B0:46:0:0:0:B4D5:2BCD (talk) 22:12, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not good practice to self-cite and cite a Wikipedia article in a Wikipedia article. Also, we do not want to make readers chase links around to find a proper source, so you should cite the source in the page, not some random other page that mentions the same fact. I never said that you couldn't add that the movie wasn't successful; I merely said that you need to back it up with a reliable source. Since there are many in the 47 Ronin article, you can just take one of them and put it on the page, and it'll be fine. Thank you for your concerns and your efforts to keep Wikipedia NPOV :D. Regarding that IP

I reported that one at AIV. Even if it might not fit the definition of vandalism to the letter, that kind of thing can be reported at AIV since the editor is clearly acting in bad faith by that point. TornadoLGS (talk) 21:31, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TornadoLGS Okay. Thanks for the help! I guess I'm still pretty new and I've never really faced personal attacks like that... quite an, for lack of better word, interesting experience. Well, thanks for getting them blocked. I'll use AIV next time (and maybe learn how to properly file a report on ANI so I don't have to annoy poor random admins if the need arises). Thanks again! GoldRomean (talk) 21:48, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I've just noticed - thanks for requesting the page protection too! I guess that's the only way to stop them from using a proxy? GoldRomean (talk) 21:56, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or sockpuppetry more generally if they consistently target the same page(s). Some of the pages I've frequently edited have required protection (sometimes indefinite) for that reason.
