Belmont High School is an Australian public secondary school located in Belmont, Victoria, a suburb in the city of Geelong. It is one of the largest public schools in Geelong, which is the largest city in Victoria after its capital, Melbourne. It was established in 1955 and as of 2007, it has an enrollment of over 1100 students from grades 7 to 12.

Uniform

The summer uniform for girls consists of a green gingham dress, bottle green jumper, black t-bar shoes and white socks. The winter uniform consists of a white shirt, and a long black watch tartan kilt. Many students have noted that the kilt is long enough to trip over.

The school uniform for boys consists of a white shirt, bottle green jumper, grey shorts or pants and grey shoes. In 2006 the school board voted for white socks to be added to the boy's school uniform. Previously, boys could be given detention for wearing white socks instead of the designated grey. The change was met with a positive response, but the practice of punishing students for incorrect socks is still met with criticism, as socks are often considered irrelevant to education.

Cafeteria

In early 2006 the cafeteria was demolished to make way for a new staff building. Food and drinks are now made inside an old portable classroom and served outside the window. Lines are now noticeably longer.

2007 School Captains

The 2007 leadership team consisting of Jordan Dougherty, Jess Obrien, Alex Morell, and Steph Conte were popularly elected by their peers to undertake the role of School Captain(s). They represent Belmont High School at a number of events and organise activities throughout the year.

Construction work

In 2006, half of the school including the old administration building was demolished to make way for new classrooms. The construction work covers a large area of the school and it often poses a problem for students wishing to get to class on time. The construction is not expected to be finished until August 2007.
