Marco Borriello (born on June 18 1982 in Napoli, Italy) is an Italian footballer who plays as a striker for Genoa C.F.C.. He has previously played for other Italian clubs including AC Milan, Sampdoria, Treviso, Reggina, Empoli and Triestina. He was once billed as one of Italy's best young talents but has so far failed to live up to the expectations.

Biography

Borriello grew up in the working class area of San Giovanni a Teduccio in Naples. He has two younger brothers named Fabio and Piergiorgio. Growing up was tough for the family, as Marco's father died by the time he reached adolescence, his mother Margherita helped keep the family together.

Career

On 21 December , 2006, He tested positive for a drug test after the 11th matchday of the 2006/2007 Serie A season. After being confirmed of the given test in January 2007, he was suspended until March 21, 2007.[1]

On 21 June , 2007, he was sold to Genoa in a reported £1.3m deal for co-ownership with AC Milan.

On 26 September , 2007, Marco Borriello helped Genoa accomplish their first win of the season back in Italy's top flight, Serie A. He scored his first hat-trick at the expense of Udinese who had already received a 5-0 defeat to S.S.C. Napoli who also recently made their return to Serie A. The game ended 3-2 and Borriello's final goal happened to be the decisive one. The win was dedicated to the fans and hopes that this can help inspire themselves before their derby with Sampdoria which a lot of emphasis is being placed upon for both teams. Sampdoria being a former club of Marco Borriello.
