Jalsa (Telugu: జల్సా, English translation: Fun) is a 2008 Telugu film directed by Trivikram Srinivas, who returns after directing hit, Athadu and produced by Allu Aravind under Geetha Arts banner. The film stars Pawan Kalyan, Ileana D'Cruz, Parvati Melton, & Kamalinee Mukherjee in pivotal roles. The music soundtrack of the film, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, was launched on February 29, 2008. The film was originally planned to be released on March 27, 2008 but because of the delay in the Digital Intermediate (DI) process, the film released on April 2, 2008.

Plot & Review

Sanjay Sahu (Pawan Kalyan) is a happy-go lucky type guy. He has two bad habits. One is neglecting studies (that's why he is doing his 4th PG) and the other is he heavily drinks every night because he felt so irritated about the society and his sorroundings. His first love was a failure as it is not accepted by Indu (Played by Kamlini, who is his love interest) father( Played by Prakashraj)Kamilini's father, doesn't accept his love).

While leading his life like this suddenly Bhagyamati (Ileana), his junior enters his life and falls in love with him. Jo (Parvati Melton), who is a friend of Bhagyamati) also likes him a lot. Also she expresses her love before Bhagi (Bagyamati) but fails to win the heart of Sanjay.

Sanjay accepts Bhagi's proposal after waiting for a while. Meanwhile, enters Damodara Reddy (Mukesh Rishi), a faction leader operating from a jail, keeps hunting for Sanjay Sahu. He desperately wants to kill Sanjay. The rest of the story is all about why Damodar Reddy is after Sanjay and how Sanjay reacts to it.

Comedy is the best part of the movie. Sunil entertained in the first-half. In the second-half Brahmanandam's role as Pranav is excellent, scenes between him and the lead actor are hilarious.

Reception

Jalsa is the most widely released south Indian film ever with over 1000 screens worldwide on the opening day.[2] The film will release in the US with 18 prints.[3] Though many feel that there is no relation between the films title and the story, but many stated that the film's title "Jalsa(Mean Fun or Enjoy)" is in par with the mood of the film as it runs mostly on entertainment only. Despite mixed reviews and a 'divide talk' on the first day, the movie witnessed the best ever openings for a telugu film. The movie grossed Rs 7,67,00,000 ($1.89 million USD) on its first day itself .[4] The film grossed Rs. 21.09 crores ($5.2 million USD)in its opening week[5], the highest opening ever for a Telugu film. Boxofficemojo.com ranked this film in 9th position amongst all the films that released worldwide that week, which is cited as a great achievement for a regional film [6]. The film continued its dream run during the second week at the boxoffice by grossing 31 crores in 14 days. It maintained its place in the World Top 20 in its second week, by grossing about $2 million according to BoxOfficeMojo[7][8]. The buzz amongst the trade circles is to see if Jalsa would gross Rs 50 crores (500 million), the first telugu film to reach that milestone.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack of the film was launched on February 29, 2008. The audio rights were sold to Aditya Music for 90 lakhs[9][10], the highest for a Telugu film ever in the recent times.[11] The music got very good reviews from websites[12][13][14] and an excellent response from the public itself.[15] The music has been topping the charts since its release.[16][17]
