This game is linked to from the Neversoft Wikipedia article and it's also in the Neversoft Games category. Why? I thought it was made by Shiny?Vegetable4 08:11, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Promo video and meaning of "MDK"

If this video is really the promo video (and all signs seem to point that way), then there's really no question on what MDK means: Murder Death Kill. It says explicitly, right there! Can anyone confirm the validacy of this? ☢ Ҡi∊ff⌇↯ 08:54, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Glad we agree, but I often consider "Mega Destructive Kurt" as a good alternative name. Maybe relating it spiritually to "Megaman"? (The promo video) He does have similar gadgets and suit but Kurts in 3D. I often sometimes think that MDK could of been pitched as "A 3D hyperactive Megaman with a B-Movie plot", but I have no proof of this. It's been mentioned in the article that Kurt was dispatched on: "Mission: Deliver Kindness", which can be abbreviated to MDK. So why haven't anybody considered this possibility? Funnily I only ever saw the game on the shelves, I never owned it nor read up on it asides from having once played the demo and I've always 'known' the acronym to be for "Murder Death Kill". Where I got that from or why I have no idea... I'm pretty sure it was from an advert in a game magazine, I seem to have an image of the main character to one side, and on the other it explicitly saying "murder death kill" on a poster/full page advert below the MDK title --85.62.18.8 (talk) 01:59, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Thinking of adding more

I'm a avid fan of MDK, and if its okay, I will try to make this article larger and more informatical without any spoilers EG: the games sci-fi plot background and character profile. This however will NOT be copied from the instruction book as Wild 9 has done, I have also joined in writing in any most of Shinys game articles and Planet Moons too, and will try to tighten up and link any similarities and trivia relating to each other.--Fr3k3r 20:45, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Laguna Beach?

I seem to remember this game being called MDK: Mission Laguna Beach; I remember this as I had pondered why they used the acronym MDK if it was supposed to be Mission laguna beach.

Is there any information on where this laguna beach bit came from?

Laguna Beach is where Shiny's headquarters was set up during the development of the game, hence saving it first. Maybe, thats why the codename. Also interestingly enough, MDK2 had you saving Edmonton, where Bioware's headquarters was set up. --Fr3k3r 20:45, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Added info about Kurts Coil suit and Minecrawler

I thought it would be right to add info about how Kurt's coil suit works. The sniper rifle, chain gun, ribbon chute, etc.

Will add pics later, (I actually have some of the games concept art hanging about of the suit and how it works, I think its in the actual limited edition's instruction book)

As you don't just play as Kurt in the game, you play as Kurt in the coil suit.

So, the coil suit is the star of the game, IMO.

I cleaned up the external links a bit. Please review the External links guide if you feel I've deleted anything that should remain. Does anyone know where the promo video on Google came from? I've left this link under the assumption that the video was publicly released by Shiny and its presence on Google doesn't violate their copyright. Gregmg 15:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Here's further clarification of why I removed several of the External links:

- petitiononline.com Petitions don't meet the criteria in the External links guide for a number of reasons. This has been discussed extensively on the MDK2 talk page. Please review that discussion if you have any questions.

- dpfiles.com Discussion forums are in the Links normally be avoided section of the External links guide. Still though, these are some great pictures and it would be nice to incorporate them. It would be best, I think, pull them directly into the article. Can we get permission from David Perry to copy one or more of these into Wikipedia? (assuming that he holds the copyright) Failing that, I would not object to reinstating the link.

- youtube.com Per the External links guide, we are prohibited from linking to sites that violate the copyright of others. The servers for the English language Wikipedia are located in the US, and as such, content is subject to US copyright law. I am not a lawyer but I have a general understanding of the fair use doctrine, and one could argue that the use of this video constitutes fair use. However, at 3 minutes and 19 seconds in length, I think that's a stretch. Fair use is really intended to allow one to do such things as copy a short bit of text into a research paper, a short clip of audio into a news presentation, or perhaps a few screen shots into a video game review. Wholesale copying of content isn't allowed, and because of that, we really shouldn't be linking to it. But like I said, I'm not a lawyer so if someone wants to research fair use and Wikipedia's policies on this, perhaps an arguement could be made for reinstating the link.

Gregmg and others, I´m NOT going to let these images go down the pan, and lose this link. I´m going into David Perry´s forum and try to personally ask him. If this eventually means, having to host the images on a tempory blog or so from his site, instead of everyone taking his bandwidth to the forum. He may be getting slightly peeved by all of these new ´guests´.

As much as I hate it, honestly looking at it, I DON´T really know about the Youtube link (MDK-BZK Vid). It is tricky, perhaps this could be discussed with Perry too. As the video is Shiny´s property, the performance is Billy Ze Kick and was originally as a pop song done by a child choir. The final statement may not be accurate, as the song, could possibly be a folk song or such a song that belongs to no-one.

I thank you Gregmg for the above comments about the article over the controversy of this page, and even the status of the games franchise itself. But this game IMO is as important for the history as 3D gaming as Doom was, so its art and plot should be preserved. I will not be quoted on this. I want the above to go no futher, but believe is allowed on this discussion page. No, one, quote, me, on, the, above.

Concept art Images on this page

This page has evidence about the images having being taken off of the MDK2 DreamCast CD by me. Given free on the CD.

If the images are against any format of copyright, I'll be very suprised.

Just because the images are included as a free bonus item on the game CD does not confer to any owner's of the game CD the right to copy those items. The copyright for all content is still held by Shiny, BioWare, or whoever produced the CD. Gregmg 14:12, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

However, if this above information is found out and correctly verified on the image´s page, wouldn´t this then make the images all safe and legal for Wikipedias copyright policy? I´m thinking of popping into David Perry´s forum (as I have already registered) and asking about the current copyright status of these images, wherever they are property of Interplay, Playmates, Shiny, Bioware, or even the team at Planet Moon. I´m sure it would be very silly of them being on the CD, of MDK2 as they KNEW fans may possibly use them on websites. But just in case, as you said Gregmg, I´d (one, or all of us) better find out.

I believe these images should be preserved as ´history´ of the game and get to the bottom of the whole copyright status of MDK´s concept art and perhaps at the same time, the MDK franchise. Further Cleanup

I cleaned up alot of the grammar mistakes and added detail to many of the entries. Also I added the powerup bit- Screens for that would be nice. Also, I forget what the vacuum feilds actually are- my friend took the diary with him when he moved to britain. Fluke 610 EST 19 Dec 2006

Excellent, but I personally think we would actaully be best just having screenshots and crop to thumbnails of the powerups. We SHOULD be able to count them as screenshots then. The vacuum fields? Isn´t that what Kurt rides through at the end of most levels? I believe that to be the Energy Streams around Earth, not sure, but we´d best check this out together, oh and I´ll be getting the limited edition (Off a friend) with the book soon. No, I was talking about the feilds Dr. Hawkins is researching when he goes into space- explained in the diary.

'Energy Streams' I believe. I think the aliens are Streamriders travelling through energy streams. I seem to remember him going into space because of that. I'll check when I'll get the book. Yeah, that'll be real nice, also, whos the IP number thats added onto the article? Its looking good in my opinion. :) But I'm no expert :( Are we going to try to document any of the Minecrawlers and bosses? Because, I think if we do that, we're taking the whole point away from what this article is to be. This will NOT become a review. Its looking pretty much like all we admire the world and concepts Shiny created. Shiny, happy, little people... Also have to get these images sorted out again. I've been informed another image is not in the right catorgory. Hang on, sorry, this is getting me. I've just looked at the article again, Was Dr Hawkins ship actually named Jim Dandy in THIS game, or was it just nameless? Another thing that concerns me is that Kurt is captured by Gunther Glut doesn't Kurt actually pursue him to his world from the previous Minecrawler? Also, regarding the plot. I'm afraid this is becoming a review...it just feels less about the world of the game, and the game itself. Is this what everyone else wants? If so, I don't mind, but just my personal opinion. I'm currently working on getting screens for the thumbnails for the powerups. Now, before I get too far in and find out all my work is for naught, ARE THERE ANY LEGAL CONCERNS WE NEED TO PLAY WITH? Dammit, yeah. I have had problems with the images. Even though I've listed most of the concept art as the 'concept art' tag. Wikipedia keeps telling and warning me about the tag I gave it. But its the truth, it IS concept art for a videogame. How on Earth am I supposed to save these images? Good news is...:

I've got the MDK Limited Edition now, and when I have time, check if everything is in order according to the instruction book...if I scanned in the concept art in the booklet, would it be possible to call that Fair Use? I think it will. And it will be a definate source to check and valid, such as the scanned in MDK meaning page.

Okay, I went in. Don't shout at me for being badly word processed and perhaps lame at typing, but I've written a hefty post on DPFiles. I hope everybody working on this article agrees with the post and its contents. Also, don't shout at me about the possibility of the article soon after vanishing. I'm just worried about some of this content we have on the article, links, information, images,etc. I think DP is the man to ask. If not, I've asked if he can tell through the forum where we can find out. One of developers murdered his daughter - help needed

Somewhere between 1997 and 2001 I read in the "CD Action" polish gaming magazine, that one of the MDK game developers murdered his 5-year old daughter and was sentenced to life, thus MDK 2 developer team is weaker. However, now I'm completely unable to find any sources of this information. If you find it somewhere, could you please put it here? Thanks!
