Momo
"Grassrunners: A clan of anthropomorphic dogs who are generally robust and physically strong, however are not so intuned to magic.(Momo, despite being frequently mistaken for a rabbit, is a dog - compare her ears to Scias and Ursula's ears)."
Unless someone has something specific from a reliable source like a capcom manga published stating momo is a dog or rabbit etc I think this stuff doesn't need to be here. Its entirely possible that grassrunners can be any multiple anthromorphs, bulldog, collie, lop eared rabbit, etc. Look at Bow from BoF2, he looks domestocated ;-) and he's not part of Bo's forest clan from the BoF (that I am aware of) so could be one clan is "pet type anthromorhs - happy carefree running in grass stuff, grassrunner". Heck, Capcom has never been great with the whole continuety thing anyways.
Anyway if we have an official sort of source lets put it in a page for Momo, and state what grassrunners are, if not, leave it out altogether and maybe think about putting in a page for Momo that some players are uncertain what Momo is meant to be. --4.225.232.32 16:15, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Capcom don´t have to say nothing, it´s obviously that Momo is a Rabbit seeing the Artbook, you can see Pink/Red eyes, how many animals have pink eyes? i think my dog don´t have, and yours? you can take the nose too, and the ears (very different than Ursula ears) but the most important thing: Pink eyes!.
Splitting up the games
I'm gonna put a Cleanup tag until these are separated. They are all full-fledged games. -- A Link to the Past 03:21, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
I've made this the hub page for the series, like this page for the Star Ocean series. Content for individual games can be found on Breath of Fire I, Breath of Fire II, Breath of Fire III, Breath of Fire IV and Breath of Fire V (when it's added, [information is still here]). At the moment, most of the content will be what was originally on the this page. Although just because they're stubs, doesn't mean they should be put on one page. They can be expanded into full-fledged articles. I'm just not the person to do it at this time (I've only played BoF III and that was some time ago). --John Lynch 15:46, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
- Problem is that the correct title for the first game is Breath of Fire, so a series page would have to be Breath of Fire series. -- A Link to the Past 17:00, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
- Alternatively, the article relating to the first game could be title Breath of Fire (video game) and the series page could remain here. This was what was done with both Castlevania and Final Fantasy. – Seancdaug 17:20, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
- I always thought that those pages just shouldn't be. I mean, look at Legend of Zelda series, works perfectly. Calling it Breath of Fire series would eliminate confusion when people come specifically for Breath of Fire. -- A Link to the Past 17:32, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
- I disagree that it's necessary. Final_Fantasy_I is actually called Final Fantasy, but that page links to the series hub. If you think Final Fantasy should also have Final Fantasy (series) be for the series hub, then I think it would be better to discuss it with the people that are a part of the wikiproject for it. I don't really care either way, I just think it would be better if all of the pages are the same. Also, by having a link to all of the games on this page, it's easy to find the page for the first game. --John Lynch 02:54, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
- The thing is, it's easier to address the confusion of users who come specifically for Breath of Fire, the original SNES game, and wind up on a general series overview page, then it is to address the confusion of users who come for a general overview of the Breath of Fire series and wind up in an article for some decade-old game they've never heard of ;-). A general series page, properly written, can operate as a portal to articles for each individual game much better than an individual game article can serve as a portal to a general series overview. The hypothetical individual searching for info on the original BoF is only one click away from that article from a series page (Breath of Fire → Breath of Fire (video game)), but the individual trying to remember the exact name of that old Breath of Fire game s/he played a few years ago is up to three clicks away if s/he types in "Breath of Fire" and goes to the article on the original game (Breath of Fire → Breath of Fire series → article s/he was actually looking for). That being said, I'm just sticking my nose in here, and there's clearly precedent for both conventions. Just pointing out an alternative is all. :-) – Seancdaug 05:00, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll accept that argument. Makes enough sense. -- A Link to the Past 08:39, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

Ryu
I don't know if his name is spelled like it in the original, but could his name be "Ryuu", as in "dragon"?
- Yeah, originally, it's Ryuu (at least in the manga). However, the English translation made him Ryu (at least from the second game onwards - I don't think the character even has a default name in BOF), so I think we should stick with that. I always hate it when translators drop the long vowels in names. 130.232.131.47 22:14, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Character portraits
Can I suggest changing Ryu&Nina's character portraits to those from other breath of fire games as portraits from I-IV show much more traditional styles for the characters and the current portraits from BoF:V are very differently styled from the rest of the series in alot of ways.
I added in a note at the character section to make it clear that although there are recurring themes and character names, the stories themselves are not actually continuous - the same as the Final Fantasy, Lunar, and Wild Arms series.
Ryu's Dialogue
Actually, he does have some dialogue in both of the first two games.
Suggestions
The Black Dragon Clan was the one who gained the ability to become a dragon from Mirya. In the BoF II Ray is a black dragon clan member hence having the ability to become a dragon. A villager in Dologany also states it.
I don't think the first BoF have a less manga graphic style than the others. It's just that the first games had "special" american Boxart, as the hideous examples from the first Megaman games show.
Also, I once read about the BoF IV world being an alternate world of the worlds of the other games, and that's why many characters are summoned from their original world (like Bleu). I think it may be right, when I talked to Momo in the BoF IV, she says somehing about feelin like in a dream, like she is not herself, like she was in another world.
Speculation
This article stinks of extensive speculation. I'm reminded of when many fans believed Final Fantasy was all one big universe. Unless citations from official sources are provided, any attempt to reconcile the games as a whole is (almost entirely) supposition. Admittedly, there was the mural from BoF III and the assorted references... but then in Final Fantasy XII Gilgamesh is present with weapons from sundry Final Fantasy heroes and yet the series are not, in fact, connected. Again, I emphasize: Cite the sources. Jachra 05:58, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Major rewrite needed
This article is in need of a major rewrite. The races and groups section needs to be either shortened, or taken out entirely. The theme section goes quite off-track mid-way through and is unneeded anyway. I can't redo this article myself as I have only really made progress in III& IV. Take a look at the Final fantasy article for a good template for this one. The opening paragraph especially is misleading and incorrect in so many ways(the whole Final fantasy series takes place in the same world? The Lunar series has a tradition of discontinuity??). Yoshiguy 04:25, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Poor character profiles
Reading various of the character articles from this game series, I see many poor articles, almost all of them are stubs, and all of them haven't a simple infobox (except Deis/Bleu). Really you have to do something with that, people. Or improved these articles, or simply redirect all of them to their respective games. Basara-kun 08:23, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Characters
"Throughout the series many characters have come and gone. The five constant characters in every game are listed below"
I think this should be changed somehow, since only Ryu and Nina are in every of the five games. Maybe something like "important characters from the series" or just leaving Ryu and Nina under "constant characters" and the other three under "other important characters"? 193.174.26.199 17:33, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Breath of Fire VI
Has there been any new developments regarding Breath of Fire VI? I hope the Breath of Fire series continues! Albert Cheng (talk) 23:35, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
From what we have been hearing Capcom is not just going to let there best RPG just die. A earnings statement for capcom states that Breath of Fire is there is there top selling RPG series --The Victor 05:14, 20 November 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thevictor (talk • contribs)
