Please Note: Due to technical difficulties, rename requests may take longer than normal. Thank you for your patience.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Jimwalez → Vivalavida

Bureaucrat note: There's already a user with that name; is there another that you'd like to have? EVula // talk // // 17:47, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Des Bois → Karen D. Hunter

On hold You appear to be creating an article about yourself as your userpage, and that's why you want the rename. Such vanity pages aren't allowed; do you plan on contributing to the encyclopedia, or just to work on your vanity page? EVula // talk // // 22:16, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

amspock → A M Spock

Bureaucrat note: "A M Spock" already exists; given the similarity between the edits, is this you? EVula // talk // // 23:43, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PNYUSA → Webro1985

Bureaucrat note: Webro too could be considered promotional. How about something not related to your field? Kingturtle (talk) 19:57, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MahmudSipra → Dream Merchants

Bureaucrat note: I just changed MahmudSipra → Mahmud Sipra (see above). Kingturtle (talk) 01:32, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

KitsuneDragonRA → Marluxia.Kyoshu

Bureaucrat note: Yes, this is possible. First, please log in at Commons and post on your talk page there that you agree with this move. Then post the diff here. Given the SUL issue, we may not be able to do this name change until the toolserver is working again. Hopefully that won't be too long. --Dweller (talk) 10:32, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done[1]. Marluxia.Kyoshu (talk) 10:21, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Argh! Sorry, just came back from the commons so it was on that account! User:KitsuneDragonRA/sig2 10:22, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

KillerCroc101 → Byron the Horror

Not done Judging from your history of vandalism here, I don't see why we should take the extra time to fulfill this request. Kingturtle (talk) 15:46, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Byeboer_waByeboerNEW → Byeboer

Clerk note: User:Byeboer exists (it looks like it was created automatically upon visiting this wiki) and has one edit. Matt (Talk) 05:01, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  1. : Not done The name Byeboer (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has only one edit, it could possibly be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 15:48, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm able to edit the page so could be part of the wiki single user name. Sorry for the trouble. Byeboer (talk) 18:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Winterwater → Winterkind

  • Could you elaborate what you mean? I assume it has something to do with the single unified log-in... -Jéské Couriano (v^_^v) 07:32, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • I originally registered with the target name at Commons + simple, where no warning was given about automatic registration across projects. Over here at en&de Wikipedia one also was notified after registering, leaving me with a new account on en&de-wikiprojects. So I hoped it would be somehow possible to move/rename/merge the new account(s?) on en&de.wiki to the name I already used on Commons; as the Commons-account at some time already registered me across projects without me knowing. (P.S.: In case it is important, as I don't know if the en and de accounts are 'the same' or separate: I also asked for a rename on de.wiki.) Winterwater (talk) 15:49, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done The name Winterkind (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has no edits, it can be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 04:10, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mtchong → Michael Tchong

Clerk note: Assuming this is your real name, are you aware of the implications of using your real name? Matt (Talk) 04:56, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aenikolopov → Armen Enikolopov

Clerk note: Are you aware of the implications of using your real name? Matt (Talk) 04:51, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Kingturtle (talk) 04:10, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NMusic03 → Nikki Martinez

Clerk note: Promotional usernames are explicitly disallowed and are blocked on sight. Furthermore, you appear to be conflicted; bureaucrats generally will not rename such an account if the new name is tied to the conflict. -Jéské Couriano (v^_^v) 07:28, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Promotional in nature. Kingturtle (talk) 16:00, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hendrick4life → Dynex

Bureaucrat note: Please confirm that you are Hendrick4life. Kingturtle (talk) 16:09, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Macbot3000 → MacB3000

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and renaming appears to be possible. SoxBot VI (talk) 18:54, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Kingturtle (talk) 04:12, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hemhem20X6 → Rocio Nadat

MiniMiniMini → YumYumn

Clerk note: The user originally requested Yum (talk · contribs) which is why the bot reported the taken message. New target username looks fine. Matt (Talk) 04:07, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Kingturtle (talk) 04:13, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Muturzikin → Zorion

 Done Kingturtle (talk) 04:15, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Roggio → Raagio

Sezzlebot → Sezzle
