Richmond is a city in Ray County, Missouri, United States. The population was 6,116 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Ray CountyTemplate:GR.
Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.8 square miles (14.9 km²), of which, 5.8 square miles (14.9 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.35%) is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 6,116 people, 2,488 households, and 1,579 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,062.7 people per square mile (410.0/km²). There were 2,651 housing units at an average density of 460.6/sq mi (177.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.29% White (U.S. Census), 3.73% African American, 3 Native American, 1 Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.03% of the population.
There were 2,488 households out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.5% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.6 males.
