Lungs is the debut album by the London-based indie pop singer Florence + the Machine, released on July 6, 2009.[1] The album remains at Number 2 in the UK album charts, five weeks after its release, behind the late Michael Jackson[2]. The album is nominated for the 2009 Mercury Prize.

The track "Cosmic Love" features in the "Priority Tickets for the o2" ad for The O2, Dublin. "Dog Days Are Over" was used in an ad for programming on RTÉ and in an episode of BAFTA-winning teen drama Skins.

Several songs on Lungs are about violence and death. When questioned about this by the NME, Welch responded: “Well, what other subject is there? I remember realising that my parents were going to die and weeping. Weeping as if my father had actually died.” [3] The song has also aimes towards thing such as fantasy and dreams.

The album has been critically acclaimed by many critics. One noted that that the songs "merge together seamlessly, making the album sound like one long fluid song." [4] Critics also noticed that the song aims largely towards the fantasy dream type setting. Many DJ's have also praised Florence Welchs's singing and has proven to be a large hit on the radio. As well as this, critics lauded the album for being easy to listen to and having a winter vibe to it.
