James Seymour Brett

James Seymour Brett (3 April 1974) is an English composer and conductor.

Early Career

After graduating from The Royal Academy of Music in 1997 James was immediately hired by the acclaimed composer Michael Kamen. James’ further contribution to film scores includes writing collaborations with Kamen on features such as The Event Horizon (film), What Dreams May Come (film), The Iron Giant, Frequency (film), X-Men (film), and the epic mini series, Band of Brothers (TV miniseries) produced by Steven Spielberg. In this period James also co-produced and provided additional score on Paramount's Against the Ropes.

In 1999 James helped mastermind the ambitious and groundbreaking concert that saw Metallica pair up with The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra as assistant Musical Director. The album has since sold over 5 million copies worldwide. In 2002 James went on to plan and execute, again as assistant Musical Director and in close partnership with the BBC, Party at the Palace (part of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations). This unprecedented and star-studded event was broadcast live to a multi-million audience worldwide with a gold CD in less than a week. James co-ordinated and arranged many of the collaborations both with traditional rock pairings and new orchestral interpretations.

Film and Television

James has written extensively for film and television, establishing himself as a worldwide talent through his scores for TriStar Picture’s Planet 51 and the 13-part NBC primetime series, Crusoe (TV series). James’ collaborative work as composer, conductor and orchestrator with Harald Kloser will soon be heard in the epic feature 2012 (film), directed by Roland Emmerich. James became an integral part of this creative team on the hugely popular 10,000 BC (film). James’ music for the horror feature Outpost (film), directed by Steve Barker, also showcases his talent and versatility. In addition, James has written, orchestrated and conducted for the 2007 releases of Transformers (film) for DreamWorks and The Nanny Diaries (film) for The Weinstein Company

Walking With Dinosaurs - The Live Experience

James travelled to Australia to collaborate on this truly monumental Arena Spectacular. Working with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra he composed and conducted over 80 minutes of music to score this dramatic prehistoric story. The show features 15 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs, as they battle through evolution just feet away from stunned audiences.

The show is currently touring the UK and Europe, for which James recorded a further 30 minutes of new material at Abbey Road Studios, London. Since the production opened in July 2007 over 1.5 million tickets have been sold throughout the US with a further 500,000 in the UK alone in August 2009.

Walking With Dinosaurs continues to tour the world, at present in Europe and the US
