Before the 2007 merger, the railway services in Hong Kong were provided by two separate railway companies, namely the MTR Corporation and the KCR Corporation. There were a number of stations that were served by both companies, and passengers could transfer from the railway system of one company to that of the other company. These stations were usually known as the interchange stations between the MTR and the KCR. There were totally four of them:
