Definitely needs it's own section. I've just tried to find Gliding by coming down from the top and its impossible. If you work back from Gliding you get to Category:Air Sports and Category:Sports_by_type and Category:Sports, but nowhere near a portal. The whole structure of portals appears to be isolated from categories. --Impeachable (talk) 09:11, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Flags

Do we really need this flagcruft in the geography section? It only makes it illegible. — Kpalion(talk) 20:03, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. remove flags or put them in an ordered wikitable. Elekhh (talk) 03:59, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with all the above. -- Quiddity (talk) 02:15, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm all for that. My concern was adding the numerous missing countries and states - I was following the format of the other entries. 76.105.199.24 (talk) 01:25, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like consensus. We only need a volunteer now to take down the flags.Elekhh (talk) 11:53, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Portal needs improvement

This portal is viewed 200,000 times a month, yet is in pretty bad shape. Many issues have been discussed presviously (see talk page archives above) however some persist:

 • no clear order: there is a lack of consistency in the grouping and ordering of the lists. It is a bizarre mix of thematic and alphabetic order;
 • poor visual appearance: colour scheme, symbols, flags clutter etc. Have a look to german interwiki page for comparison German Wikipedia Portals

Some suggestions:

 • Sports and Games doesn't fit verry well into Culture and the Arts. could be moved to Health and Fitness or form a separate section;
 • Architecture is more than just Visual arts; could be separate sub-category; while Film is more a visual art than a performin art.
 • The sciences: Mathematics and logic, Natural and physical sciences and Technology and applied sciences could be grouped somehow together. Elekhh (talk) 06:00, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As per comments above I changed the icons from the Nuvola style [1] to the P_icon style [2]. I thought the improvement would be obvious to anybody: P_ style is visually coherent and provides wikipedia a more professional look. However the changes (in the template) were reverted by Quiddity requesting discussion. I still support P_icons. Elekhh (talk) 00:46, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The template Portal:Contents/Types TOC and its icons, are used in ALL of the pages listed in . Hence it would need to be discussed/mentioned at all of those pages, before any changes are made. (The parent wikiproject is ostensibly Wikipedia:WikiProject Contents, but I don't think there are more than 3 people watching it currently.)
The same goes for any major resorting: The 12 section headings (eg "Mathematics and logic") are currently consistent across all these content portals. Sorting the contents within each section is perfectly fine, but changing the actual headings around is much more complicated. -- Quiddity (talk) 02:11, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Icons

I'm proposing replacing the icons in the TOC with a visually more cohesive style. As these icons appear on multiple pages, please go to Portal talk:Contents/Types TOC to see and discuss this proposal. Elekhh (talk) 02:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The existence of this portal is a discussed subject (see the discussion section on the Cannabis portal page). Also, Cannabis is a subject which reaches far more beyond Health and fitness. The medicinal properties of this plant is just a small part of the whole subject. Therefore I don't think the link is appropriate and that it should not be placed under "Health and fitness". Also check Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cannabis --Dehugs (talk) 09:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion is moved to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cannabis#Portal:Cannabis --Dehugs (talk) 09:00, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the Cannabis Portal is not best categorized within the Health and fitness section. But where? Society? As I mentioned in the discussion at WikiProject Cannabis, cannabis is a plant (biology) with psychoactive (drug) chemical properties (chemistry) that has a cultural (society) and political (politics/law) impact. The subjects encapsulates many different areas of interest, but I think "Society" is most appropriate. Comments? --Another Believer (Talk) 07:11, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sports and Games

Definitely needs it's own section. I've just tried to find Gliding by coming down from the top and its impossible. If you work back from Gliding you get to Category:Air Sports and Category:Sports_by_type and Category:Sports, but nowhere near a portal. The whole structure of portals appears to be isolated from categories. --Impeachable (talk) 09:11, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
