Fann Cup

decltype, It took me a little bit to figure out what I believe to be going on, and it seems to me that there is a lot of drama surrounding this page that I have an interest in. I happened by chance while searching Fann Cup on google to come across a deleted page on wikipedia about the tournament. I requested to Anthony Bradbury to have it restored so I could work on it - and it seems to have been restored and deleted again due to vandalism?, which I believe stems from a 'sockpuppet' case involving the original author?, to which according to my talk page, I was accused of being one of that authors 'sockpuppets' by one of that authors alleged 'sockpuppets' to which that investigation? was deleted by another editor? (I'm extremely new to wikipedia, and I am trying to figure out the right way to do things.) How can I take over this page? Do I just form a brand new page, even though the information contained in the original happens to be correct?

Anthony mentioned original research as oppose to references... I participated in the tournament so I don't know how more original I can get. I'm not sure how that differs from what I already suggested to him. EDIT: I just came to understand what he was saying... to find good third party references that are not involved and that my involvement doesn't qualify as a good reference. I just found this article posted on the National Lacrosse League (www.nll.com) website. (http://www.nll.com/article.php?id=4563) The NLL is not involved and they do not sponsor the event. Is this what he has in mind?

BACKGROUND in CHONOLOGICAL ORDER:

Fann Cup The page for the Fann Cup was deleted listed as a blantant/hoax - This is not true, as I have participated in this Tournament from 2007 through the present. The website devoted to this years fann cup is at www.fanncup.com (links to http://fanncup.freehostia.com/2010FannCup.htm). The tournament is in Philadelphia this year and happens to be this coming weekend. I did not write the initial article but can you please undelete it, and I'll make some changes to it. All of the history and information about the teams should be able to be found at our website. A radio station is supposed to broadcast the games live this year, but I'm not sure if I can find actual published sources. The arena www.bucksmontisc.com has our tournament posted in its events area and links back to our page... Can you give me a hint on what you need to keep the page on the site specifically? PapaDrom (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Anthony.bradbury" Fann Cup Since i deleted this page it has already been restored, and deleted by Decltype, to whom you will therefore need to address your request. The answer to your question as to what the article needs to survive; good references from no-involved and reputable third party sources. The article as left had none. Please note that your participation, which I do not doubt, would consist of original research, not a reference. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 14:12, 21 July 2010 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:PapaDrom"[reply]

Thanks. Hopefully we can work this out. PapaDrom (talk) 15:17, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I deleted the page because it had no meaningful content at that point. Like Anthony said, for the article to remain in Wikipedia it needs to demonstrate that the tournament is notable, the easiest way to do this is to provide references to reliable sources independent of the subject that cover the tournament. I can restore the page to your user space for you to work on, but if said references can't be provided, the Cup is probably not quite notable enough for an article on Wikipedia, and there would be little point in restoring the page. Regards, decltype (talk) 17:38, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think I now understand the requirements necessary to improve the Fann cup page. I would appreciate it if the page could be restored to my user space, so I can work on it at my leisure. I am not currently sure if the cup is notable enough at this time but as it continues to grow, having the base information intact would make a good starting point for an article. I very much appreciate your time in this matter.

PapaDrom (talk) 22:11, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have restored the page to User:PapaDrom/Fann Cup. Please do not move to article space before you have addressed the concerns raised. Regards, decltype (talk) 22:31, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On July 20th, you removed the {{prod}} template from this redirect, as it cannot be used for redirects. I have taken it to redirects for discussion instead, and your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2010 July 24#Refudiate. Robofish (talk) 17:29, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the rv. It's rather unsettling. I haven't been fighting vandalism for quite a while. I think it's an inside job. ha ha. I must have rubbed somebody the wrong way. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:37, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I suppose you must've :). Well, it's difficult not to, as soon as you've been on the project for a while. decltype (talk) 00:13, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Per this move, you userfied a page that had previously been deleted, supposedly to allow the user to improve the page. A new user has recreated the page. I have proposed the page for deletion -- what are your thoughts on the situation? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:10, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification. I deleted the page under criterion G5, creation by a blocked/banned user. I think PapaDrom is unrelated to the sockpuppets (otherwise I would not have granted the userfication request). I have also create-protected the page for the time being. Thanks again for the note. Cordoba House

Tx for taking a look at it, and deleting the stub rating. Feel free to rate it -- I haven't seen a project yet that exercises ownership over articles within it, when it comes to rating them. Projects need all the help they can get! I've worked on it too much, so can't rate it myself. Tx.--Epeefleche (talk) 06:19, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Certain projects impose certain specific requirements for C-class, B-class, etc., and I recall being admonished for an incorrect assessment in the past. That's why I usually don't rate for projects which I am not a member of, but I suppose I could make an exception in this case. I have followed this article since its humble beginnings, and I have to say that you (and others) have done an amazing job with it. Regards, decltype (talk) 06:33, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hang around these parts, and you are sure to be admonished by someone who enjoys admonishing ... no matter what you do. That's why some of our colleagues turn on their computer. I am aware that some projects have specific guidelines, that appear in the template, that push one to rate the article in various categories before giving the composite rating. But I'll keep an eye on your talk page for a day or two, so that if someone chastises you for this I can TROUT them. Tx for your kind words. I saw the NYT article, and thought this would be a good wiki article, as it must have a number of views on both sides. I was disappointed in what we had, so I've been putting some time into it the last three days. Tx again. It sounds as though the Landmark Commission meeting in seven hours will be anti-climactic, as the dye is cast (according to the Daily News).--Epeefleche (talk) 06:43, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I had a brief look at the WPNYC assessment page, and the only project-specific requirement I could find, was that a B-class article should have at least one reference, so I'm sure it'll be okay :). Have you checked whether your expansion exceeded 5x, by the way? (I'd do it myself, but I don't have the script installed currently) decltype (talk) 06:54, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking about that myself. I imagine it is rather close, and should likely reach that level after tomorrow's meeting. What hook(s) did you have in mind?--Epeefleche (talk) 07:51, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did not have a particular hook in mind, I just thought that the article would be a nice addition to DYK as a reasonably comprehensive article on a subject of current interest in the US, if it did happen to meet the criteria. decltype (talk) 08:59, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I'll give it a thought -- feel free to as well. BTW, just took a look at the humble beginnings. Quite funny. And good of you to save it.--Epeefleche (talk) 09:33, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Will do! Regards, decltype (talk) 10:06, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm thinking of going w/one or both of the following, and suggesting speedy movement on it as it is an issue in the news today ...

… that while most Americans and New Yorkers oppose the construction of the Cordoba House mosque near Ground Zero, its location was a selling point for the Muslims who bought the land?

… that while Mayor Mike Bloomberg said that Ground Zero was a "very appropriate place" to build it, most Americans and New Yorkers oppose the construction of the Cordoba House mosque near Ground Zero?

Thoughts? (though I may submit it shortly).--Epeefleche (talk) 03:47, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think both are good. Of course, Ground Zero needs to be piped, but I'm sure that's what you intended to do in the first place. decltype (talk) 06:00, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ... yes, but a reminder is always helpful. I've opened it up here. Hopefully someone picks up on my request for fast approval, to catch the wave of interest. Best, and thanks again for your help. Feel free to weigh in there, whatever your thoughts might be. I've, btw, asked the editor who helpfully put the circle in that photo if there is any way to make it bolder, so that it can be seen more readily.--Epeefleche (talk) 06:43, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'm glad I read your note. It reminded me that I had not linked to the Ground Zero page that was specific to the WTC ... which I have now addressed. Tx again.--Epeefleche (talk) 06:47, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was exactly what I meant, that the link needed a pipe. Regards, decltype (talk) 07:32, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

help needed

Hi Decltype, I have gotten photo from adil to upload here with the permission, since I am so good in making mess, I have uploaded 3 of the same picture, can you please delete those 2 which does not have "Information |Description". moreover, I havn't been able to upload his picture on his urdu page, can you please, do that for me, or tell me how to do that. thanks a lot, forhånd takk. Regards.Jogibaba (talk) 21:33, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jogibaba. Since you have uploaded the picture to the same filename, there is no need to delete the older versions, as they do no harm. To use the file on multiple projects, you should upload it to Wikimedia Commons instead of here. However, you need to make sure that your permission explicitly releases the image under a free license compatible with commons, and the permission e-mail must be forwarded to the OTRS. All the information you need to do this is located at Commons:Permission. Regards, decltype (talk) 05:38, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the reply, the email I got from Adil is a long one, because that is in a reply form, both the person replying each other on the same mail, which turned the email into an extremely long email, but here is the last email which Morten has written to Adil

" Hei Adil,

beklager at jeg ikke har fått svart deg før nå. Det går litt fort i svingene her. Du må gjerne bruke bildet på wikipedia og det er helt greit for meg at det kan lastes ned. Trenger du noe offesielt fra meg eller holder det at jeg sier det er ok i denne mailen?

Håper du koser deg i solen :-)

Med vennlig hilsen

Morten "
