Your RFD nomination for Taiwanese nationalism

Just dropping you a note to inform you that I will not be deleting the Taiwanese nationalismTaiwanese independence redirect, and have instead redirected Taiwanese nationalism to Taiwan independence to remove the double redirect.

While your points regarding the difference between "nationalism" and "independence" are valid, terms do not need to be exactly synonymous for a redirect to be useful. The terms simply have to be similar enough that one could reasonably expect someone looking for one article to possibly type in the title of the redirect. I believe that's the case here, so I didn't delete the redirect.

However, please note that you may still (if you wish) turn the Taiwanese nationalism redirect into a full article about Taiwanese nationalism, in a way that distinguishes it from Taiwanese independence. By all means, feel free to do so. → Ξxtreme Unction {yakłblah} 11:54, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out, I was just about to go check and make sure he hadn't continued reverting (we all have to sleep ;) ). Commonsenses has been blocked for 24 hours. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 15:32, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jiang, I'm a bit short on time and was wondering if you could help explain some issues to 163.28.64.50 regarding the use of "ROC" vs. "Taiwan". It's the same old problem that many new users encounter. Perhaps we should make a template that would point people to the naming conventions, explain that disambiguation pages are navigational tools, etc. Thanks for your help, if you don't mind. Re. the photo of Chiang on the balcony in Second Sino-Japanese War

Usually when I see that photo, it's in reference to the Lushan declaration, Chiang's de facto domestic declaration of KMT resistance against Japan. I actually don't know if that's correct or not, but I imagine that Chiang would find more motivation to give a major speech to his own people after Lugou Bridge. Your expertise in this matter would be most enlightening.  ;)

If you do have some time, could you help edit the Taiwan freeway pages so that it has the same amount of standard as [1] ? I wish I had time, but I've encountered more than 12 hour workdays at TSMC . . . . Allentchang 15:46, 25 December 2005 (UTC) Allentchang 15:46, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Politics of ROC/Taiwan infoboxes

===>Preferences? Do you have any preferences between using the footer versus the side box? If it's a long article, the side one; short article the footer? Justin (koavf) 20:35, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

===>My take I prefer the sideboxes, generally, in an aesthetic sense, but I see what you're saying. I would also prefer a PRC/ROC box for cross-strait issues... Justin (koavf) 14:37, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mainland China

Would you think the term mainland China did include Kinmen and Matsu before 1945 (and did not include the Dachen/Tachen Islands until 1955)? The term may include the present-day Mongolia until recently. The border changes between the PRC with India, Pakistan, Sovient Union/Russia, etc., also complicates the matter, that time here is the fourth dimension. Should all these be better elaborated? Thanks. — Instantnood 08:15, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say the contemporary usage of the term has been stable since 1955. And as far as I know people in Hong Kong, and probably also in Macau, has been saying 中國大陸 for a long time. — Instantnood 09:57, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sino-German cooperation

Hello Jiang, can you help me write a longer lead section? The featured article page says it should be like around 300 words, but I haven't found a way to do that without repeating stuff. I think the stuff needs copyediting too. Thanks. BlueShirts 20:47, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Han Chinese page

Say, wouldn't it be good to have at least one historical figure rather than just a bunch of contemporary Han? I mean at least an emperor or Confucius whom I think is a great choice. I'm cool with Jiang Zemin though as that's at least one political figure and Yao's okay too, but Elaine's Chinese American and I'd rather see Confucius representing the history rather than an expat. Just my two cents. Tombseye 01:28, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of the Republic of China - Spoken Wikipedia

Hi Jiang

I noticed you shifted the Spoken Wikipedia box for Flag of the Republic of China to the bottom for the reason of reducing whitespace. I'm about to revert this for a couple of reasons:

1. Each combination of browser, resolution, font size and Wikipedia skin will produce different varieties of whitespace. While it may have looked unsightly on your machine and what you did made a difference, on my machine (1024x768, Firefox 1.5, "Normal" font size, Monobook skin), it's made no discernible difference whatsoever.
2. By shifting the Spoken Wikipedia box to the bottom, you've basically hidden it out of view from the majority of people who will come across the article. The guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spoken_Wikipedia#Templates_for_articles say that the box should be at the top of the article, not at the bottom. This is so people are alerted to an alternate method of "consuming" the article.

Cheers, Darobsta 22:51, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah sorry... I thought you meant white space underneath the Spoken Wikipedia box, not between the first image box and the Spoken Wikipedia box.

As for putting the box at the bottom, there are some who do that, but I just went by what is policy on the project page. Now that I think about it, this is something I should look for/raise on the talk page there. Darobsta 01:05, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lü Bu -> Lu Bu

Can you explain why you moved Lü Bu to Lu Bu? I don't understand the reasoning, as the trend, it appears, on Wikipedia has been to add umlauts and accents when warranted on people's names. Lu Bu can be a redirect. --Nlu (talk) 19:07, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Emperor Wu of Han

Hope we didn't discourage you over at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates#Emperor_Wu_of_Han... I really think the Wu of Han article has promise, it just needs some more work (& u seem to be the person to do it!) Mikkerpikker 01:25, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mmmm... that is a bit of a problem. I don't think either that the Wu article has any chance of passing in its current state, have you asked Nlu to add citations? Wrt copyedit, I'll see if I can help when I have time (won't be for a bit...). In the mean time I suggest you add the citations you have. Mikkerpikker 07:32, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sai chaan

Hello again. I'm afraid you've reverted the move with the wrong destination. User:Huaiwei moved the artciel from Hong Kong style western cuisine to sai chaan, and you've moved it to Hong Kong-style Western cuisine. [2]Instantnood 18:20, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification. I now understand your rationale, but actually I myself never write in this way. Is it among differences between different sets of manuals of style? — Instantnood 19:00, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jiang

Hi, Jiang, I would like to invite you to join the edit team for Superpower.
 Here is the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superpower
This guy Jumbo is revising the China section of the this subject( most negative comments of China) It seems like he think he owns this page.
First of all, it's not just me, but many other people that are reverting your edits. They are clearly POV in favour of China and against Russia and India. Please stop. Jombo 10:35, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicting information: Villa Montalvo

Are you certain that Villa Montalvo is in fact in Saratoga?

The Villa Montalvo and commons:Image:Cuperino-villa.jpg articles give conflicting information of where it is located. The Wikipedia articles states that it is in Saratoga, while the commons article states that it is in Cupertino. In either case, one of those articles need to be corrected and moved as necessary. — Seven Days » talk 20:45, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2003 iraq invasion

Not sure how that last massive revert came in there. It wasn't mine, all I changed was I've been deleting the POV "unprecedented terrorism" remarks. Just letting you know that it didn't come from me. Swatjester 01:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC) oh ps I'll be monitoring here for response if any, no need to come to my talk page. Swatjester 01:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

nope, it wasn't you i was trying to revert. i agree with your edit, but had already gotten rid of that phrase earlier and went further. It was this edit by 84.59.108.128, who mass reverted these set of edits by me. I had changed "Decisive Coalition victory; Iraqi regime toppled; occupation of Iraq; emergence of insurgency and unprecedented terrorism" to "Saddam Hussein and Baath Party toppled; occupation of Iraq; emergence of insurgency".--Jiang 01:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok, I've come under fire for reverting so many times, so I've made a request for final consensus on the bottom of the talk page, and included your section in. Please vote? Swatjester 01:52, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please vote in that talk page? That annoying anon is going around like an asshole, and hunting down liberal members of wikipedia to back him up on the vote. Swatjester 11:05, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speculation about the papal conclave, 2005

Please reply on this page. I notice you have suggested Speculation about the papal conclave, 2005 be cleaned up. I was just visiting that page to propose a deletion since it is pointless butyou got there before me. I didn't want to tread on your toes. Would you mind if I removed the clean up tag and proposed for deletion? Stroika 13:46, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I put that page through a regular AfD and it survived. That AfD was less than 30 days old when you whacked the article by simply chanding it to a redirect. I am putting it back. -- Pinktulip 16:49, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kaine response

Please stop making this into a redirect. It's a completely different speech. KI 23:39, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously I did pay any particular mind to this, but I'm having trouble finding what was "grossly POV", according to the anon. [3] In fact, I may be a bit slow on the uptake here but I'm not seeing much of a distinction at all. Mind explaining what is going on? --TJive 20:29, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
