Approving versions for commons

Two things:

• Please make sure you give attribution to the correct author. You'll notice I fixed the image [1]; you attributed the author in the history on this file to an earlier version with no resemblance to that image.
• If a file has multiple reversions, and the later versions are dependent on the earlier, we don't delete cc or gfdl images because they require attribution [2].

I apologise if you found my response condescending, that was not my intention. I was simply trying to offer advice on where such questions could be asked in future, since ANI is not the correct place. The help desk can usually help with questions like that, as can a {{helpme}} request; alternatively, you could ask in IRC. I note that you are long-time contributor, indeed your contributions outnumber mine, but the help desk isn't just for new users; if you're unsure of an aspect of wikipedia guidelines or policy and can't find the relevant pages, those three options are all likely to be helpful. photo permissions

Im beginning to detest wikipedia and the way in which people yourself just delete things making those who arent completely expert in contributing feel unwanted! Those images that you put up for "speedy" deletion were either taken by myself or given to me by friends through my sport to use as i wanted even on our own website if we wanted, which is why i was able to upload them to wikipedia! I jumped through hoops to learn on what was acceptable for the copyrights when i uploaded them and when i did so the person helping me said that the copyright information was applicable and complete. Maybe you could start talking to users about the content they are trying to improve wikipedia with through contributing rather than just tagging everything for speedy deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weeman com (talk • contribs) 18:00, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

forward the emails? well the culbann.com one there is none, I own culbann.com I was attributing the image to the website as thats where I originally hosted it. The one from angus cameron, it was 5 years ago, when the last international was held at culbann cpc, i doubt i still have the email and yet would still feel uneasy about forwarding personal information to OTRS Weeman com (talk) 16:52, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Alkivar probably isn't going to answer, and the image is going to deleted anyway, but this is page five of B-26 Marauder in Action, written by Steve Birdsall and published by Squadron/Signal.[3] (c) Squadron/Signal Publications 1984, who still exist today. Birdsall himself seems to have edited Steve Birdsall, although I surmise that the copyright still rests with the publishers, so you can kill the image with fire immediately. These old aeroplane books float around the internet in .pdf form, particularly the Osprey titles, but Squadron/Signal seem to be popular as well. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 20:13, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello, can you suggest what to do? I made this image a long time ago in the early days of Wikipedia. I took what I thought was the standard template for New York State and added a red dot where Ithaca is, using Microsoft Paint. I can't find the template any more. Should I just give up and produce a replacement image? Or is the image licenseable on the basis of what I just told you? Thanks, Opus33 (talk) 00:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I just noticed that File:Holynamecathedralemptyinterior.jpg which was uploaded in 2004 has been marked for deletion by you. You do understand that all the current processes were not completely worked out then? And I understand that culling and making sure that current rules are followed has to occur. In any case, I'll contact the uploader, who is still active, to see if he can shed light on the matter. So please hold on until he has a chance to respond. I seem to get lightning bolts cast -- once for making an edit on a "clearly marked" page which was marked after the edit <g>, etc. 2/0 is now, once and for all, to me, an "involved admin" quite likely from my efforts to make WP:Activist a non-polemic neutral essay, of all things! Once for [4] which was required now under WP:BLP, once for [5] which is also now required under WP:BLP, once for [6] which was a classic "Nazi smear" being reinserted by an IP, and the classic King of Hearts block for an edit war (?) more than a week old. I stand by every single edit I have made, and the latest block seems to me to have been quite outre at best. Cheers! Collect (talk) 06:36, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
