Isle of Jura Single Malt is a Scotch whisky distilled on the Hebridean island of Jura (near Islay). Unlike some of its heavier Islay neighbours, Isle of Jura is a lightly peated, smooth, elegant and dry malt, with a subtle acacia honey aftertaste.[1]
Jura's range of malts include a 10, 16, and 21 year old, and one named Superstition.[1]
The first official distillery on Jura was built in 1810, but there is evidence that some distilling took place on the island as far back as 1502. The distillery has been expanded over the years but still occupies the same site, draws its water from the same natural source, and remains the only distillery on the island. The distillery is owned by Whyte and Mackay.
Isle of Jura Single Malt is distributed in Australia by Think Spirits.
Critical Acclaim
Isle of Jura offerings generally have performed well at international Spirit ratings events. Its Profoundly Peated Single Malt has garnered the most recent acclaim, winning a double gold medal at the 2010 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and earning a score of 97 from the Beverage Testing Institute.[2] Its "Superstitution" scotch has also posted high scores.[3]
