Froot Loops (pronounced Fruit Loops) is a brand of breakfast cereal produced in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and several European countries by Kellogg's. The cereal pieces are O-shaped, and come in banana, blueberry, lemon, marshmallow, orange, and strawberry (artificial) flavors. The Australian version of the cereal is without marshmallow to comply with local dietary requirements for products marketed to children.

Froot Loops started out with only three different flavors: Orange, Lemon and Cherry. Newer flavors were added including Lime Green (1991), Berry Purple (1994), Tropical Berry Blue (1997), Cherry Cherry (2005) and Golden Berry (2006).

Other varieties of the cereal sold by Kellogg's include Froot Loops 1/3 Less Sugar, and Marshmallow Froot Loops.

The Bird Himself

In the cartoon advertisments for Froot Loops, the voice acting for Toucan Sam was originally done by famed Canadian voice actor Maurice LaMarche. LaMarche was also responsible for Chief Quimby of the Inspector Gadget cartoon series, the voice of Brain from Pinky and the Brain, and numerous other characters.

Biologically speaking, Toucan Sam is a Keel-Billed Toucan.

Other Froot Loops products from Kellogg's

A similar Froot Loops cereal was manufactured starting in 1998 called Marshmallow-Blasted Froot Loops. This cereal was basically Froot Loops with marshmallows. New marshmallows were introduced usually every year. It started out with Toucan Sam marshmallows, followed by frogs, then number 2's, then mummies, and finally sharks and pirahnas. The commercials followed a story of Toucan Sam traveling through a marshmallow temple. The cereal discontinued in 2005.

Besides the breakfast cereal, there are other products currently available in the North American retail market:

  • Froot Loops are fruit snacks that come in a variety of the following fruit flavors: green apple, watermelon, blue raspberry, orange, cherry, and grape.
  • Eggo Froot Loops is a spin-off product to both Eggo and Froot Loops. They are waffles have multiple flavors of fruity filling attached to the inside.
  • Cereal Milk Bars Milk cream are at the bottom of cereal pieces attached together.

Toucan Sam, Froot Loops' mascot

The cereal's mascot is Toucan Sam, a blue cartoon toucan with a striped beak. Originally each stripe on his beak represented one of the flavors of the pieces in the cereal, (red = strawberry, yellow = lemon, orange = orange), but the additions of new flavors have made this no longer true.
