Surely if he only learned English in school, then he would have had an Irish speaking father also? Or that his father wasn't present while he was growing up. Also, if it's known that he only learned English at school, surely we would know for definite his surname in Irish rather than having two versions at the top of the page. Can someone please correct/ fill in these details. - [[Special:Contributions/188.141.61.64|188.141.61.64]] ([[User talk:188.141.61.64|talk]]) 02:06, 22 March 2011 (UTC) |

Birth Date
Since there is no information supporting the birth date of 29 February 1840, and because the biography of John Holland that is linked suggests a birth date of 24 Feb 1841, I have changed the date and removed the category "Category:Leap day births|Holland, John Philip". If there is support for the leap day birth, we can put it back.Dpv 14:19, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Other developments
Can somebody clarify the dating of Holland II & III? As I recall, they predate Adder (which was Holland VI or VII, I think). Also, something should be said about his rivalry (or the competition) with Simon Lake. Trekphiler 08:02, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
