Omid is an Iranian and was born in Tehran, if you dont believe click on this link and listen to him self in his own words he says he is iranian and he was born in Tehran and he is proud to be iranian, he describes Iran as a beautiful country with more than 5000 years of history. Having kordestani as a surname dont make him a person from kordestan. He was born and grown up in Tehran, with parents from Tehran and has persian as mother tongue and after all that he is iranian forever. Visit these links:

:I clicked on the first of the two links, which is a Youtube clip of a commencement address that Kordestani gave at San Jose State University in 2007. In the address, he states he was born in Tehran. The passage, which begins at 06:36 into the clip, is the following:<blockquote>I was born in Tehran, the capital of Iran , a beautiful country with some of the most hospitable people you can find on the planet, and more than 5000 years of history. It is also working through a complicated mix of religion and politics internally, and geopolitical challenges in the region..</blockquote>Someone keeps changing his place of birth to something else, and offering a citation, but I do not see anything in the citation about his place of birth. Possibly the Youtube clip can be used to show that Tehran is the correct answer, if we can determine that there isn't a copyright problem, and if there is no blacklist issue. A regular Google search for his place of birth did not give me anything usable. If we cannot use the Youtube clip I suggest omitting his place of birth from the article until such time as a reliable source can be found. ::The current reference given in the article for his place of birth is a dead link to a document on a college website. Here is a regular text page (not video) from SJ State U which gives his birthplace. I'm going to add that to the article as the reference for his birth in Tehran. EdJohnston (talk) 18:37, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

All these sources claim Tehran his birthplace:

Protecting the article
Hi. This article and it's well-sourced pieces had been under repeated attack and delitions by different individuals. Is it possible for the moderators to protect this article from vandalism? I am a moderator in the Persian Wikipedia and had to do the same there for protecting this article. Thanks.--ماني a.k.a. &#91;&#91;User:Mani1&#93;&#93; (talk) 22:14, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Being born in Tehran does not make him Persian. There are millions of Kurds that are born outside of the Kurdish region and reside in capitols of their countries of birth. Plus, being Kurdish does not make non-Iranian, and for Kordestani being Iranian does not make him Persian. Iranian people are a mix of Indo-Europian nations that migrated to the area and include, Kurds, Persian, Aghans, Belouchi's and others, with linguistic and cultural similarities. I would recommend staying from an ultra-nationalistic tone that is biased to one race. Kordestani grew up in Tehran and was surrounded by Persians therefore grew up speaking their language, this still does not make him Persian. Its his language by education not by inheritance, therefore it does not represent his ethnicity. <small><span class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaffd (talk • contribs) 13:46, 16 January 2010 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

Birthplace
Here is another source in persian claiming Tehran his birthplace --Asraramiz (talk) 06:08, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi wikipedia administrator and moderators. This article is target of many attacks and some people changes his nationality and birthplace just because his surename.please full protect this article in order to minimize vandalism in this article.--Asraramiz (talk) 06:11, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

This article is not on the watchlist of anyone and any moderators, so when some one vandalize there is not anyone who can revert it.please watchlist and protect it, the persian wikipedia has also protected this article.thanks--Asraramiz (talk) 06:14, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

here is another important official source claiming tehran as his birthplace: --Asraramiz (talk) 12:10, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
:Since an edit at 15:43 on 15 December tried to make him Kurdish, there have been no further attempts to change his birthplace. At present I don't see the urgency of semiprotection. Until recently, there were no proper sources in the article for his birthplace. Now that there are good references, I hope this reverting will stop. EdJohnston (talk) 16:22, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

i understand that Wikipedia is very restrictive in protecting an articke.but i hope this article will be full protected in the future like the article in persian wikipedia.but i will inform wikipedia administrators that this article is not on the watchlist of any administrators.please can you watch this article.because at the present time if some one edit it and give wrong information and if some one vandalize it no one knows.please if it is not possible to protect, at least watch it.thanks--Ditictur (talk) 16:57, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
:I'm an administrator, so there's at least one! I believe that protection was requested twice at WP:RFPP and it was declined twice. So let's wait and see if the reverting continues. EdJohnston (talk) 17:24, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Some one changed his birthplace again, and i reverted it.--Ditictur (talk) 20:06, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Some vandalists add wrong info to this article, just look at the edit archieve.this article should be full protected --Ditictur (talk) 20:14, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Moved from Template talk:Cent
Hi, i aoplogize for my poor language skills.

since you are an admin i would contact you.The article of Omid Kordestani is target of vandalism and some people keep changing his birthplace which is sourced.and the article is not under any protection level, that means if some one make a change in that article, no wikipedia admin is awared and no ones knows and no one reverts the article to the former version, since you are an authorized admin in wikipedia i want you to either full protect this article in order to reduce vandalism in the article, and if this is not possible, make the article under survellayence so that you can revert it when some one makes a wrong change.because i am not admin and i can not look at the article so much as i do now.please.thank you very much--Ditictur (talk) 06:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

The name Kordestani is not proof of his ethnicity. That does not mean he is a kurd.many persians in Tehran and Mashhad and some other cities in Iran has Kordestani family name and are not kurds, this is because they lived in kurdish populoated cities and villages in Iran.I know another persian (iranian) person who is named Houshang Kordestani, a member of the constitutionalist party of Iran, and he is 100% persian without kurdish roots.so this family name does not make him kurdish.--Separesh (talk) 08:38, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Long-term semiprotection needed?
The last semiprotection expired 27 April, 2010. Those who watch this page probably know that IP editors keep coming to this page to change his nationality to Kurdish. There are plenty of reliable sources to disprove this, but they change it anyway. Mis-stating his birthplace and nationality is not the same as defamation, but it does cause wrong information about this man to be visible on Wikipedia every time, until somebody comes along to fix it. Is it worth imposing long-term semiprotection to prevent IPs changing the nationality about 12 times a year? Thanks for any opinion. EdJohnston (talk) 15:54, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
:Since nobody objected, and one person supported (below), I have extended the semiprotection for one year. Please leave a message on my talk page if you disagree with this. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 15:16, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Long-term semiprotection
Also in my opinion the article of Mr Kordestani should be at least semiprotected and if possible full protected to prevent vandalism.I hope the administrators fix it as soon as possible.Thanks--Separesh (talk) 20:40, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Watchlist
This article is also not on the watchlist of anybody, so when somebody changes or edits the article no one will know about the change and edit.So i request the administrators to set this article on their watchlist in order to minimize vandalism.Watchlist is very important to this article.Thanks.--Separesh (talk) 20:52, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Early life section should be based on reliable sources that are easy to read
<blockquote>Due to his surname, he is sometimes mistakenly perceived as being a Kurd, but he is an ethnic Persian and speaks only English and his mothertongue, Persian, and he was born and grew up in Tehran. </blockquote>reflist
Since IPs have been warring over his ethnic origin, I suggest that regular editors may want to replace this paragraph with something that depends only on sources available in English. The statement that he is an ethnic Persian seems to depend on facts not in evidence and is hardly essential to this biography. The question of what languages he speaks or does not speak would need excellent sourcing and we really don't need it here. English sources already available in the article clearly establish he was born in Tehran; that should be enough. There is a story why he has the family name 'Kordestani' but it is too long to present here, and our article doesn't need it. EdJohnston (talk) 16:18, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Last word > the reference paragraph I quote......... “The statement that he is an ethnic Persian seems to depend on facts” ......Un-quote. Facts!!! What facts??!! This not a fact, it is merely a very weak assumption not more, if taking into account their ethnic given Kurdish Surname. There are many families in the Middle East with the surname Kurdi scattered all over Jordan, Syria, & Palestine. When they are being asked what their ethnicity is?? Most will respond as an Arab from Jordan, Syria or Palestine correspondingly, but if asked what is their ethnic background origin is? Most will confirm as per their given surnames as KURDSIH. Bill Gates is an American, but his ethnic origin background is (Scottish/Irish). Being born in Washington US (for example so to speak), and speak English only, this does not make him an ethnic English??!! Same thing, Omid Kordestani, his maternal or paternal parents might or might not be an assimilated Persian! I cannot be certain, as there are no references available, One of them might speak Kurdish as it is actually very close to Persian language, but from their given surname Kordestani, their ethnic background is in their surname as KURDISH. Another example is myself, our family’s (according to our Maternal & Paternal lineages extending back approx 600 years) mother tongues is Arabic, born in Syria, we do not speak Kurdish or associate ourselves with Kurdistan, socially we relate ourselves as Syrians, in many occasions might even mention as Arabs, but when asked about our ethnic background, we always proudly respond as Kurdish. Therefore, my objection about the article is in the following reference I quote.............. “he is sometimes mistakenly perceived as being a Kurd, but he is an ethnic Persian and speaks only English and his mother tongue”.......un-quote.......I believe to be more correct, the statement “is an ethnic Persian” must be replaced either by “he is Iranian, of Kurdish background ancestry” or at least as an Iranian???!!!!, Persian should never be added.......THERE ARE NO KORDESTANI’s as Persians, Turks or Arabs, period. This is Middle East.99.254.122.70 (talk) 04:17, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
:This appears to be speculation, based upon your own personal opinions as to who is likely to be a Kurd and who is not. It is hardly worth continuing the discussion without actual data about this man, from a citable source. You should be aware that many readers of the article won't be too concerned about his ancestors' ethnicity, since the man's business accomplishments during his own life are why we have an article on him. EdJohnston (talk) 14:44, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

no matter he is a kurd or persian, he is iranian.

loooool he is kurdish man!
You are wrong, he is an ethnic persian from tehran, many persians who lived in kordish populated cities adopted the surname kordestani, and even if he was a kord (which he is not) he would still be an iranian because he would be an iranian kord, not (an iraqi or turkeyian kurd).the article is well sourced.--Cocnous (talk) 09:24, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
