Angelina Pivarnick was born on Staten Island, New York on May 23, 1987. She first rose to fame in 2009 when she was one of eight people to become a cast member on the MTV reality series Jersey Shore.[1] Her appearances on the show were met with controversy, as Pivarnick left early in both seasons 1 and 2.[2] Due to this fact, Pivarnick was not included on the third season of the series, and was replaced by Deena Cortese.[3] However, rumors have been going around that Pivarnick will return for the fourth season of the show, set to air in the Summer of 2011.

After Jersey Shore, Pivarnick began recording music. Her debut single, "I'm Hot", featured Andy Stein as producer as well as on vocals, and was initially leaked on November 12, 2010.[4][5][6] The 52 second snippet of the song broke a record the only unreleased song in history to reach the top ten on radio charts in less than 24 hours. The song was met with negative reception, with many critics commenting on Pivarnick's rapping in the song. She is rumored to be signed with TNA Wrestling, on a deal that will see her appear in the ring twice, the first was on March 3rd in a six-woman tag match with Sarita and Cookie against Velvet Sky, Angelina Love and Winter.

Career

2009–10: Jersey Shore

In 2009, MTV announced a new reality series, titled Jersey Shore. The show was set to follow the lives of 8 Italian men and women, as they spend their summer at the Jersey Shore. She was 22 years old when she auditioned and she's the youngest cast member besides Vinny who is 20 years of age. Shortly afterwards, Pivarnick was announced as one of the shows castmates.[7][8] The series was initially met with controversy even before it premiered. MTV received criticism from Italian-American organizations for the way in which they marketed the show, as it liberally used the word guido to describe the cast members.[9] The term 'guido' is generally regarded as an ethnic slur when referring to Italians and Italian-Americans. One promotion stated that the show was to follow, "eight of the hottest, tannest, craziest guidos,"[10] while yet another advertisement stated, "[the show] exposes one of the tri-state area's most misunderstood species... the GUIDO. Yes, they really do exist! Our guidos and guidettes will move into the ultimate beach-house rental and indulge in everything the Seaside Heights, New Jersey scene has to offer."[11] Prior to the series debut, UNICO National formally requested that MTV cancel the show.[12] In a letter to the network, UNICO called the show a "...direct, deliberate and disgraceful attack on Italian-Americans..."[13] UNICO National President Andre DiMino said in a statement "MTV has festooned the 'bordello-like' house set with Italian flags and red, white and green maps of New Jersey while every other cutaway shot is of Italian signs and symbols. They are blatantly as well as subliminally bashing Italian-Americans with every technique possible..."[14] Around this time, other Italian-American organizations joined the fight, including the NIAF,[15] the Order Sons of Italy in America and the internet watch-dog ItalianAware.[16][17] MTV responded to the controversy by issuing a press release which stated in part, "the Italian-American cast takes pride in their ethnicity. We understand that this show is not intended for every audience and depicts just one aspect of youth culture."[9] Since the calls for the show's removal, several sponsors have requested that their ads not be aired during the show. These sponsors include Dell, Domino's and American Family Insurance.[18] Despite the heavy criticism, MTV still chose to air the series.

The series premiere saw Pivarnick arriving in the house with her clothing in trash bags, which her fellow housemates as well as the public found "trashy". On the first night, Angelina and fellow housemate Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino engaged in an argument after he invited girls to the house and they got naked in the hot tub.[19] Jersey Shore premiered on December 3, 2009, with back-to-back episodes, averaging 1.375 million viewers.[20] In the third episode of the series, Pivarnick and her boyfriend broke up, leaving her emotionally upset. When she refused to work her shift at the T-shirt shop, she was ultimately evicted from the house.[21]

On January 29, 2010, MTV announced that a second season of the series consisting of 13 episodes has been ordered and will air in the summer of 2010.[22][23][24] MTV announced that the second season would follow all of the first season cast as they "escape the cold northeast and find themselves in a new destination".[22][23] The second season was shot in the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach, Florida in May 2010. The second season begins on July 29, 2010.[25][26] Fellow housemate JWoWW stated shortly before the show began that she did not want Angelina to return to the show. Pivarnick responded by stating "If she wants to be a bitch and talk shit then I can go right back at her! Keep hating, keep being jealous, that's it. I don't wanna fight with people in the house, but if I have to, I have to."[27] The other cast members were unaware that Pivarnick was returning to the show, and her arrival surprised all of them.

Immediately, Pivarnick was met with hostility by her fellow housemates, with the exception of Mike, Pauly D and Ron. The house was constantly arguing with Pivarnick, which led to several arguments in the house, including an argument which led to Pivarnick slapping fellow housemate Pauly D while she was heavily intoxicated.[28] In the tenth episode of the season, with only a week and a half left of filming, Pivarnick left the show.[29][30][31][32] Before she left, Pivarnick and fellow castmate "Snooki" engaged in a physical fight. Of the fight, Pivarnick stated "It started with her being jealous that I hooked up with Vinny, and then she hooked up with a guy that I was talking to to get back at me, and she said I had her sloppy seconds. Meanwhile, she did the same thing I did," Pivarnick explained, later referring to herself as "drunk" and "a fool" for hooking up with Vinny." When asked about her time in the house, Pivarnick felt she was bullied, and went on to say "I was definitely bullied, basically. I was definitely the person that everybody blamed for everything," she said. "I was blamed for the note. Meanwhile, I didn't even do it. I was blamed for talking about everybody. Meanwhile, we were all wrong. Everybody talks about everybody [...] I don't feel like I ever had a chance, honestly. They say that they gave me a chance, they say that they wanted to let me in, but it was just like a roller coaster."[2]

2010–Present: Music Career & Other Works

After Pivarnick left the show, she announced interest in releasing music,"I think I have a good voice," she said. "I've been testing it out with this producer I know, and I actually rap really good, too. You would never expect it I know, but I'm actually really good at it."[2] A single was initially set for release on October 16, 2010, but due to negotiational issues, it never appeared. A snippet of the song, titled "I'm Hot", leaked online on November 12, 2010.[33] The 52-second leak was Angelina's rap verse, and broke a radio record, for being the first-ever unreleased song to enter the Top 10 most-played charts. Shortly after the leak, it was announced the single's release had been canceled altogether. Producer Andy Stein, who also provides guest vocals on the song, stated that " I agreed to give Angelina exactly what she wanted during negotiations, but she is being completely unreasonable and because of that I have decided to no longer pursue any business arrangement with her [...] It has nothing to do with the leak. It would have been great for everyone if we were able to come to reasonable terms, however, reasonable terms seem to be an impossibility when it comes to doing business with Angelina." Despite these comments, Pivarnick announced the singles release date to be November 18, 2010. The single was officially released in it's entirety on iTunes on November 18, 2010.[34] Stein and Pivarnick held a release party in order to promote the single.[35]

"I'm Hot" was met with a nearly unanimous negative reception. Angelina has since stated the song was just for fun, and wasn't meant to be taken seriously. She has also announced a second single, which is currently pending release. When asked about the song, Pivarnick stated "To be honest with you, it's really good. 'I'm Hot' was not even nearly as good as this song. This song is definitely something you can hear in the club. And it's me singing, not just rapping. As a matter of fact, I'm singing in it all the way. I'm not even rapping in it all." [36]

Aside from her music career, Pivarnick has taken to the wrestling ring, and has signed a contract with TNA Wrestling.[37][38] It was later announced that the contract signed Pivarnick on for only two episodes, which aired on March 3, and March 10 of 2011. Angelina teamed with both members of ‘The Shore’, Cookie and Robbie E in a six-person tag match, and rumors state that Pivarnick has challenged ex Jersey Shore co-star, JWoWW to a match.[39][40] Internet blogger Perez Hilton has also stated that Pivarnick is in talks to be cast in an upcoming film, titled Every Time I Go To Staten Island Something Bad Happens. The plot revolves around "a Latino former gang member who starts his life again in art school, as he tries to stop his brother from working with criminals."[41]
