Hillcrest High School is a public high school located at 7350 South 900 East in Midvale, Utah. The school was built in 1962 and started classes in the fall of that same year. Hillcrest High School has a total enrollment of 1688 students in grades 10-12. the student body (by percentage) is: Asian - 1.5%, Black - 1%, Caucasian - 85%, Hispanic - 10%, American Indian - 1%, Pacific Islander - 1%. Susan Malone serves as the current principal.

Hillcrest High School is part of the Canyons School District.

Interesting Facts about Hillcrest High School

  • The school was built at a cost $5 million, when adjusted for inflation that figure in 2005 would be $30.8 million.
  • The school failed to have an official mascot during its first two years of existence. "Huskies" was eventually chosen over "Hillbillies".
  • A large chicken ranch was located directly south of the school at one time.
  • The school's football stadium lights were relocated from the old Bingham High School in Copperton, Utah.[1]

The following is the official history from the school accreditation manual: Hillcrest High School first opened its doors to students in 1962 as the third operating high school in the Jordan School District. It is located on a 38-acre (150,000 m2) site approximately 12 miles (19 km) south of Salt Lake City. The first principal of Hillcrest High School was Joel P. Jensen (1962–1969) who served in that capacity for seven years and established a groundwork for pride and professionalism. DelMar F. Schick (1969–1987) became principal in 1969 and steered the school through 18 years of student body and community growth and achievement. He was followed by Ted P. Lovato (1987–1992) who had been a counselor and an assistant principal at Hillcrest. Mr. Lovato served for five years and was followed by Bruce Garrison (1992–1994), Dennis Hansen (1994–1998) and Gary Steele (1998–2001) who each led the school for two to four years. Linda Sandstrom (2001–2004) served as the next principal, she served till the current principal Susan Malone took over in the fall of 2004.

  • The average student to teacher ratio is 25 to 1.
