== Ginsters ==

Hi there,
I'm trying to edit the Ginsters page as there are a number of errors on it. I'm aware of the COI policy, and am writing updates based on factual information, from a neutral perspective. However, I see that you've reverted my edits, and I'm not sure how to approach correcting the errors on the page and updating the text. I can list the key facts here, and leave it at your discretion how these are presented in the text, but am of course concerned at the moment that the page is misinforming readers. The most important changes I would like to highlight are:
- the company was founded in 1967
- Ginsters do not currently produce pasta products
- Ginsters does currently bake pies and slices
- the company motto is "Real honest food"
- Ginsters' current corporate sponsorships are Plymouth Argyle FC, Callington Town FC, and Launceston Rugby Club
Please can you assist me in making these changes?
Many thanks.

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:02, 19 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Protecting children's privacy

This all now appears to be settled and suppressed as necessary, but this is a suggestion or a reminder.

Regardless of what information a user may have given about themselves (through naivete or any other reason), it is inappropriate to make public on-wiki comments such as "(apparent full real name) is a (age) year old boy from (county)" and then list what you believe is their IP address and what town it geolocates to.

Please do not do this, and please do not distribute any other similar information publicly on Wikipedia.

(I have also given suitable advice to the other user involved, which has been acted upon.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 18:26, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sherborne Girls

Hi Bob, of course, low quality ref. The rather inadequate info about the school does appear on the school website and some of it is repeated in the two inspectors' reports. I just stumbled on this page while I was researching for E. Arnot Robertson. Not being a girl and living in Hungary is rather a disadvantage really and I've found remarkably little on the Web. There was a book done on the school history in 1949 but I can't see myself getting hold of that. Even the date of foundation is a puzzle as the title of the book suggests 1899 not 1895. Most of the information on the school website is good sterling advertising, so not very interesting. Imagine, they play hockey! There is a rather sweet old picture of a line of girls curtsying to King George VI, but otherwise... Can I leave it to you to sort the references out then? Best, Brian Bmcln1 (talk) 19:42, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I'll take a look tomorrow. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 20:11, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

King's Hall School v Pyrland Hall

Do you think King's Hall School is notable enough for an article in its own right? I started looking at doing an article on its venue Pyrland Hall which is a Grade II* listed building ([1]) and wondered whether to focus on the building, while mentioning the school, or focus on the school & describing the building. Any thoughts?— Rod talk 09:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. It is a small prep school and in general lower/middle schools aren't deemed notable in their own right so there has to be a good reason to have the article. Its chair of governors won a national award, which could be a claim to notability, and it won gold in the Taste of the West awards. I'd say the choice is yours. I have expanded the article on the similarly-sized All Hallows Preparatory School to make it notable enough to stand alone, and can't see any reason why this shouldn't do the same. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 09:07, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK could you cast an eye over King's Hall School?— Rod talk 11:03, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

M5 Destination list

Hi there, I agree with you on the list is too long, but I was experimenting on what the reaction would be. All of the places I had listed were national primary destinations, they were either directly accessible from the M5, or when bracketed were half accessible from it. I do still stress though that some, but not all of my added destinations should be added, such as Exeter which is one of the M5's major destinations. Leisure Dome (Weston-super-Mare)

Hi Bob,

Just a quick note to advise that this project may be making some progress in the next month or so.

I appreciate that you had concerns about my original listing due to it sounding too promotional, and was nothing more than an idea at the time.

Would you be prepared to help me create the article?

Many thanks

dwhatley (talk) 14:15, 04 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Of course. Once it meets notability criteria e.g. when planning permission is granted, then I would be very happy to give you a hand. If you are connected with the facility in any way e.g. with the management company or achitects or builders, then you might want to read WP:COI and be sure that you act in such a way that nobody can accuse you of behaving improperly. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 13:33, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll keep you posted! dwhatley (talk) 11:10, 05 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have you seen the activity in the local news? Is this sufficient info to get an article started? dwhatley (talk) 15:51, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It still hasn't been subject to a planning decision, so I would argue that it isn't any closer to where it was before. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 15:08, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is obviously getting close though with the news reports and the appearance in North Somerset's newsletter. Let's hope they don't mess it up in the way they have the other proposed tourist attractions in Weston. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 20:09, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a low value site - see WP:ELNO --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 06:00, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
your idea of 'low value' does not accord with any of the residents who are building the site up. 100% of the residents value what is being done... which is made difficult by an outsider who cares nothing and knows nothing about the specific subject matter! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.153.192.192 (talk) 07:35, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Read WP:ELNO. There is no place for this website on Wikipedia. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 20:49, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry you felt my links were inappropriate, every one of them actually links to information about that particular college on a website that has no shop and is completely free to use and for the benefit of children and teenagers. Read WP:ELNO - there is no reason for it to be there. Plus as the website owner and someone closely connected with the organisation you shouldn't be adding it (WP:COI) --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 06:14, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clearing that up - though I really can't see how a simple link to a purely voluntary group can count as COI.

If this is standard practise, it does make Wikipedia a lot less useful and reliable than I'd previously thought - something I'll have to bear in mind for the future.

Editing of the "Porlock" Wikipedia entry

Simple Bob,

Your latest removal of the entries that I have just added seems un-necessary.

Different people search for "Porlock" for different reasons and most searches for "Porlock" are likely to be the potential tourists needed to keep our village vibrant (shops in business etc.) but instead of an entry that was at one time very a interesting Wikipedia page we now have a lot of mostly dull material.

The most elderly population is not supported by a valid citation so why remove the "citation needed" flag? The article pointed to by the reference may be correct but I was unable to varify it by searching the ONS records. People need to check what they are reading because many will just take it as fact when journalist and the like are not unknown for making things up. I spent a little of my time researching this information before adding the citation needed entry, the secondary citation is not adequate.

I also note that other interesting "trivia" keeps getting removed (not necessarily by you), frequently being replaced with things of very little interest to most people wanting to know about Porlock. Instead of being able to find links about some of the history and historic buildings like the Ship Inn we now have lots of very tedious stuff about (for example) "Governance", 9/10 people are not interested. Note that I have not removed this but leave it there for the benefit of 1/10 that may be interested. Some people seem to think that they should be able to bend Wiki pages by subverting the information others may be curious about.

I wonder what your reasons are for not wanting people to know that Porlock actually is in an area listed in The Readers Digest book, "The most amazing places in Britain's countryside". 9/10 people want to know things like this.

Please be considerate when removing other peoples information.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.96.174.6 (talk) 13:46, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are specific guidelines for writing about UK settlements, which is why sections like Governance exist. For the Guardian article reference, I don't have a problem believing that, but if you want to put your (rather pointless) tag back in then I won't stop you. That doesn't mean another editor won't do the same as me though. I removed your inline link because that's not how it is done, and besides that link doesn't add any real value to the article - see WP:ELNO. Finally, I do consider the Reader's Digest mention to be trivial but as you know 9 out of 10 Wikipedia readers - far more than I do - then feel free to put that back in, with an appropriate citation of course. I won't remove it. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 15:57, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Floating Harbour on Kennet & Avon

Hi, On the talk page of Kennet and Avon Canal you suggested changing the direction of the description of the Floating Harbour to fit with the rest of the article. Are you happy to do this or would you like me to have a go? I've added some of the outstanding page numbers (still a couple to get) & asked for a copyedit as I think it is getting close to FAC nomination.— Rod talk 15:59, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't u interested in Welsh names?

Hi Simple Bob, why don't u like me adding Welsh names 2 English places? U're just jealous because u don't know Welsh nor can u speak Welsh!

Think about it, Chester in England has Caer as it's Welsh name so I'm not being treated as a puppet because of your PATHETIC opinions which makes me very worried 4 such a sore person such as yourself to not include Welsh names!

I've been 2 Wales and I really quite like the pronunciation that they have so I will speak Welsh! SEE YA!
