Stage section

Contradiction in the Stage subheading... it first says he was 22 in 1990, then says he was 28 in 1998.

Copyrights (and other matters)

Please do not take copyrighted material from other sites. (I have removed the material in question.) The fact that you keep interspersintg (what is " interspersintg"????????????) the URL from which you took the material does not somehow make this any less of a copyright violation: you simply cannot take an entire page of someone else's copyrighted writing and paste it into Wikipedia.

Also, the fannish/promotional style of this material was totally inappropriate to Wikipedia.

I will try to take the factual content from that page and add it to the article. - Jmabel | Talk 03:55, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just tried to make someasczdbdgcbdgvchanges to the artice, and got extremely tired. It is obvious that this article was lifted from a fan page,hi
and perhaps Mr. Perry's own website. Wikipedia articles are to be objective, not fannish. TamYum 01:27, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the thing sounds like a Behind The Music. I don't know enough about the actor to fix it, though. Trendkill 02:01, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Christian beliefs

Is he Christian? Forgiveness is not something that only Christians can exhibit, so unless he is Christian, wikipedia can not say that forgiveness is a strictly CHristian belief. Mishy dishy 18:47, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He talks about his Christian beliefs in probably every interview on Oprah or elsewhere, as well as on every one of his DVD's 'special features' etc. I could probably help contribute sources for that claim, but not sure where to start. Jawn tech 03:44, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why is there no discussion of his sexuality? Why isnt his wife mentioned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.63.129.105 (talk) 13:51, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Is that relevant to his notability? Unless he's talked about that explicitly or it's created drama or been referenced in his work, I don't really think it's relevant to mention. Tyciol (talk) 01:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The man cross-dresses for a living!? I think it is relevant so I am going to put it in thankyou :-)

- I agree!

"Eight years ago"

"Just eight years ago" is based on what date? Wordings like this do not age well. If someone knows when this refers to, it should be reworded as something like "as recently as 1997", or whatever is accurate. - Jmabel | Talk 17:27, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now it says "for eight years", resulting in a claim (almost certainly false) that he "lived in his car for eight years". I really don't know a lot about Perry, but I know enough to say that this is almost certainly wrong. - Jmabel | Talk 06:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He himself said this at the end of one of his plays. I own some. Armyrifle 16:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

does he have a wife really? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.228.78.124 (talk) 15:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lived in his car...

It used to be "for two years", now "for six months", neither with citation. - Jmabel | Talk 00:38, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you cant cite your source it's not a fact. 72.189.90.159 01:43, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I heard it was only a few days. We all over dramatise for effect. I'm sure he did.

Citation?

"Perry eventually confronted his abusers and took responsibility for his previous failures. His perception of his own writing changed, and he came to terms with his past. He has made over 3.7 billion (no way he made 3.7 BILLION) dollars." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.175.117.201 (talk) 04:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Yeah.... I'm pretty sure he hasn't made 3.7 million dollars just by having a few movies and some successful plays in the last decade.--Freepablo 22:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Early life

The entire early life section is a disjointed mess. No citations, poor structure, and it is filled with opinion rather than fact. It should be removed.MattIsWaldo 16:19, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grammatically incorrect material

I am assuming that the Wikipedia community is uninterested in having grammatically incorrect material in the posted articles. I state this in reference to Ladygreen's edits, which are...lamentable, to say the least. --TallulahBelle 01:42, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did not add anything to the article of Tyler Perry for it to be Grmmatically incorrect material. I just removed things that were not facts. Sorry to have offended you TalluahBelle. 03-03-2007 - Ladygreen. blue

Need criticism section

I don't know anything about the stage plays, but I know all of his movies have been widely panned by critics. I realize that a lot of articles like this are edited by fans, but this article speaks too glowingly of a man whose work hasn't been appreciated in the movie world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.102.196.38 (talk) 09:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry... but his movies weren't just widely panned by critics, it was the movie-goer in general. The only thing making peope think otherwise is the fact that he spends millions on commercials such as "Rated the best sitcom this year". By whom? Not one person I know.

I agree. In fact, I had came to this article hoping to read about criticism about Tyler Perry and his work and there's nothing but "Lol, he's a pretty awesome guy". I know he's not a hated man, but I also know he's had a lot of people down his film and TV work, me being one of them. I wouldn't be able to write a criticism section, though, because I don't know enough about other's opinions for his work. --Goten X 22:33, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As long as there are reputable sources, anyone can post a balanced side of Tyler Perry's career.--Joel Lindley (talk) 07:57, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's unnecessary to include a section which repeats criticism of his works. None of the content actually violates NPOV and critical reception is thoroughly discussed in the career section. Simply because the article doesn't mention the fact someone in Hollywood disliked Perry's films doesn't mean it glorifies his career. Actually read through the career section and you'll see Wikipedia provides a balanced view. Every film maker receives a negative review once in his life, however this article is about the director himself, not insignificant panning. It's irrelavent regardless how consistent it has become. UniversalBread (talk) 01:36, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not that he's had one bad review. It's that everything he has released has been panned by critics (and basically anyone with good taste in movies, though the latter can't really be cited for the article). Very little of this is mentioned in the Film section of his article. 142.68.89.100 (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say that I have read a lot of articles in magazines recently about how there is controversy concerning Tyler Perry's work from the African-American community, mostly because the characters you are supposed to relate to are uneducated, vulgar, hateful and not good role models, where as all of the protagonists in the films are people with college degrees that have started careers and are well-to-do. There is much controversy in the intellectual community over this.Leviathanlover (talk) 23:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Madea's Daycare Center

This is not a play....it is a possibility but Tyler Perry was just joking about it.Broadway91 (talk) 19:29, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Negativity

Call it a hunch, but I think perhaps someone may have vandalized the "Perry's Response" section of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.121.227.11 (talk) 03:27, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the things that are in this articles are negative personal feelings rather than facts. -Unsigned

As a former employee of Mr. perry I can tell you for sure he is a very big giant donkey's rear end. This is a fact and most people that work for him--or have worked for him--can vouch for this. I will cite myself and my personal experiences when I rewrite the article to include the fact that he isn't a nice guy. -Unsigned —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.176.13.23 (talk) 22:51, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography/awards/nominations

Is there a set format for these sections on Wikipedia? I have always seen works listed with the earliest first, not the latest.72.196.220.202 (talk) 02:49, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Needless repetition

I've just removed multiple appearances of the phrase 'Tyler Perry's' from this page, which had been added before the title of all his films (and several other places); whether this was intended as vandalism or not, it's unnecessary. There's no need to put Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman instead of Diary of a Mad Black Woman; since it's listed on a page about Perry, it's obviously his film. Also, repeating the same words too often makes the article annoying to read. Please don't put 'Tyler Perry's' before a title unless it's genuinely needed for disambiguation purposes. Terraxos (talk) 22:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't that part of the name in each of these movies? HotOne121 (talk) 18:04, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is "Needless Repitition". Just as TYLER PERRY does in front of all of his shows and movies. Why? Inferiority complex is my personal belief. If his shows and movies didn't preclude with that, we wouldn't know who he is. Still don't care, as, from watching a few, they are nothing I'd put my name to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.172.108.123 (talk) 13:07, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's a sub title for a majority of his films, although it only seems necessary to state when referring to Tyler Perry's House of Payne. UniversalBread (talk) 01:31, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gay?

??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TimeDog (talkcontribs) 18:48, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citation? Reference? Proof? It seems the allegation was pretty unprovoked considering the circumstances. UniversalBread (talk) 01:29, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
UniversalBread, asking whether someone is gay or even stating that they are is not not an 'allegation'. Only a negative thing can be alleged. Salopian (talk) 23:06, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why is he part of the WikiProject LGBT studies Project? —Mike Allen 00:49, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously a rumour's not enough to go on, and that's one I've never even heard. Tyciol (talk) 01:54, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He DOES make my gaydar tingle.

I believe it is important to keep the sexuality section since it is controversial and will help readers understand the multiple overlaying issues.67.173.74.142 (talk) 04:10, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gaydar or not, it does not belong in Wikipedia. You need multiple reliable sources to add something like this. Also, for one, it's not important or encyclopedic. It's potentially libel. Mike Allen 04:39, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You don't always need multiple. Also, he's 41 and he's never been married. Nor does he appear to ever have a girlfriend. Hmmm. --24.21.105.29 (talk) 05:45, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
so because he's 41 and never been married he must be gay? That's the kind of spurious tabloidesque attitude that has no place in wikipedia 90.204.75.83 (talk) 21:52, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mention of his plays

There was no section in the article on his many stage plays, so i added it. The plays are available on DVD and are different than the movies that have the same names. 64.142.90.33 (talk) 09:05, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Picture?

I think it would be a good idea for a main picture of him to be added TylerG518 (talk) 20:08, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Film Revenue

This could use a fix, but all I can think to do is chop off the last clause: "As of July 2009, Tyler Perry's films have grossed just under $400 million worldwide, not including his plays." 173.168.204.82 (talk) 22:32, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plagarism Lawsuit

I don't want to put Tyler Perry in a negative position, but what happened to the information about him being sued for plagarism less than a year ago. I know some editor deleted it, but for what purpose? It is an event in his life that occured to him because him taking discriminated children to Disney World is there and not this! Should we place this back this back to the article? talk 01:58, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The courts ruled in his favor on the charge of Plagarism for Diary of a Mad Black Woman, see http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/perry-cleared-in-plagiarism-case_1089135 ; might be worth mentioning on the page about the film but seems like a non-issue for his bio here.Wowaconia (talk) 18:27, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Worst American actor?

"Tyler Perry (born Emmitt Perry, Jr.; September 13, 1969) is America's WORST actor, director, playwright, screenwriter, producer, author,[...]", this seems unfit for a Wikipedia article. Someone please explain, or fix the text. kthx --66.75.193.9 (talk) 03:49, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
