The 2011 World Cup (also known as the PTT-EGAT Snooker World Cup for sponsorship reasons) professional non-ranking snooker tournament is taking place from 11 to 17 July 2011 at the World Trade Center in Bangkok, Thailand.[1] It is the 13th edition of the event, and it is televised live by Eurosport.[2]
The tournament was last held 1996, where Scotland consisting of Stephen Hendry, John Higgins and Alan McManus defeated Ireland, represented by Ken Doherty, Fergal O'Brien and Michael Judge, 10–7 in the final.[3]
Prize fund
- Winner: $200,000
- Runner-Up: $100,000
- Semi-final: $60,000
- Quarter-final: $30,000
- Third in group: $15,000
- Fourth in group: $12,500
- Fifth in group: $7,500
- Highest break, round robin stage: $5,000
- Highest break, knock-out stage: $15,000
- Total: $700,000
Format
Twenty teams of two players each will participate in the tournament. The top eight nations are seeded. As the host nation, Thailand will be represented by two teams. The teams were drawn into four groups of five. The top two teams in each group will go through to the quarter-finals.[5] Each match will include singles and doubles frames.
Round robin stage
Each match will consist of five frames and all frames must be played. Each player to play one frame against each player in the other team plus one doubles frame.[6][7]
Frames will be played in following order:[6][7]
- Singles (Player 1 vs. Player 1)
- Singles (Player 2 vs. Player 2)
- Doubles (alternate shots)
- Reverse singles (Player 1 vs. Player 2)
- Reverse singles (Player 2 vs. Player 1)
One point will be awarded in the group for every frame won. Following group stages if two teams are tied on the same number of points then the winner of the match between those two teams will be ranked higher in the group. If two or more teams are tied – a blue ball shoot out will be held for those teams tied but only to determine positions 1 and 2 in group. If two or more teams are tied for positions 3–5 then the prize money is shared equally between teams. Players are not permitted to play consecutive frames in singles matches.[6][7]
Knock-out stage
Matches will be played over the best of 7 frames with a singles frame to determine winner if match is tied at 3 frames each. Players are not permitted to play consecutive frames in singles matches.[6][7]

- Singles (Player 2 vs. Player 2)
- Doubles (alternate shots)
- Reverse singles (Player 1 vs. Player 2)

- Singles (players nominated by captain).
