The Sega Meganet was a network service in Japan for people using the Sega Mega Drive.

Players attached a Megamodem (modem, with a speed of 19.000 to 26.000 bit/s) to their Mega Drive, and used it to go online to play games with other players in Japan.

The game selection included Phantasy Star II text adventures, Sonic Eraser (a Sonic the Hedgehog puzzle game), and a Mahjong title.

The Sega Meganet did not achieve great popularity, and not many games were released for the service.

But in Brazil, Mega Net was successful[citation needed], with over 4500 users and even a keyboard developed for the system. The Brazilian Mega Net started in 1996, and provided an e-mail, an electronic magazine made by Editora Abril, news from the Sega distributor Tec Toy and also online play, for games like Mortal Kombat II and FIFA Soccer 95.
