We all know that Fall Out Boy sucks major balls. I hate MTV for all the shit they allow to poison the minds of the ignorant youth. I personally think that Fall Out Boy is total and utter crap. Their instrumentals are God-awful. Not to mention their vocalist is a friggin' pussy.

Fall Out Boy is an alternative rock band from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois that formed in 2001. The band consists of Pete Wentz (bass, backing vocals), Patrick Stump (lead vocals, guitar), Joe Trohman (lead guitar), and Andy Hurley (drums). We all know that Fall Out Boy sucks major balls. Band history

Beginnings — 2001-2003

Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz were friends, and met Stump at a convention bookstore. After listening to some of Stump's tracks on MP3.com, they thought his tenor voice would be a good match to the band that was already forming. Lead singer and guitarist Chris Envy of the Maverick Records' band Showoff briefly joined the band in 2002 when the other member's of Showoff broke off to create The Fold [1].

While Wentz is the chief lyricist for the band, Patrick Stump is its "musical engine,"[1] putting Wentz's lyrics to music and arranging the tunes.

While still unnamed, the band asked the audience at a college show what their band should be called, and an audience member yelled out "Fallout Boy," the name of superhero Radioactive Man's sidekick on the animated TV show The Simpsons. The band claim that, at the time, they were unaware of the character.

Producers of the Simpsons were amused by the story of the origins of the band's name, which they discussed on the commentary to the Season 7 DVD set.

Mainstream success — 2003-present

The band landed its first success in 2003 with the EP Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, released on Uprising Records [2]. with singles such as "Pretty In Punk" and "Short, Fast, And Loud" receiving airplay on FUSE and mtvU. Fall Out Boy then signed with Fueled By Ramen and released Take This To Your Grave, which eventually achieved Gold status with help from strong singles like "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy". That same year, they signed with Island Records. Before moving on to their next album-length release, Fall Out Boy released their acoustic EP My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue, which included a DVD, in 2004.

In 2005, the band's stability was threatened when Wentz over-dosed on anxiety medication Ativan in an ostensible suicide attempt [1]. On May 3, 2005, released their major label debut From Under The Cork Tree[2], which debuted on the Billboard charts at #9, selling over 70,000 copies in its first week, and soon achieving Double Platinum status. Their breakout single "Sugar, We're Goin' Down," peaked at #8 on the Billboard "Hot 100" charts and reached #1 on MTV's TRL, where the video was retired. The video also won the MTV2 Award at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. The band was nominated for "Best New Artist" at the 2006 Grammy Awards.

In 2006, Fall Out Boy appeared on the cover of Britain's NME magazine for the week beginning April 17, and were credited with staging "a punk rock revolution"

Fall Out Boy are expected to begin the process of recording a new record in June of 2006[3].

Trivia

  • Fall Out Boy have had a number of their tracks, including "A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More 'Touch Me'" and "Dance, Dance," performed by the Angry String Orchestra on the album String Quartet Tribute to Fall Out Boy.
  • While Patrick Stump is the lead singer, Wentz (the oldest and most outgoing of the quartet) tends to take on the traditional role of "frontman" by being the band's chief spokesman and creating the banter on stage. Stump is quoted as saying "With Pete, I get to be the anti-frontman."[1]
