AWB & multiple issues

Hi, I don't have a problem with you making sure AWB uses {{multiple issues}} correctly, we all want it to be accurate. However, I'm pretty sick of the amount of changes I've had to make to support this one template. So, I plan to change the logic to use the new-style template per your feature request, and remove the old-style logic. Your most recent bug reports prove to me that the old-style template was too complicated to have in 'general' fixes. What I want to achieve is a simple implementation that has standard ignore comments logic and needs to know about a list of maintenance templates, section templates/section parameters, a threshold for insertion of multiple issues and hopefully nothing else. I don't want to keep/develop logic that template x is added/handled differently, or template y cannot be added because of parameter z, or template a and b are the same though names are different etc. So, I'd like you to help me with this by agreeing the logic up front (if the new-style multiple issues continues to need per-template exceptions I would drop any use of multiple issues in AWB, the exceptions are too much of a drain on my time), and you creating the entries in template redirects as needed. I will post on the feature request shortly. Thanks Rjwilmsi 12:10, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rjwilmsi! I'm very pleased with all the bug fixes you've done, especially the recent 100+ fixes! You've got a very hard job trying to keep AWB up to date as other editors change the definition of {{multiple issues}} (and {{dead end}}, and {{wikify}}, and so on). I'd be more than willing to work with you on this project, and hope I can learn more about the AWB code in the process, so I can do more than just report bugs. WP:AWB/TR and WP:AWB/RTP are great ways for us to improve the usability of AWB without modifying the code. How do you feel about having similar functionality for Multiple issues so we can maintain a list of those templates that are appropriate to be merged into Multiple issues? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 12:34, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Some further questions for you on the FR page. Thanks Rjwilmsi 19:11, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. I've been away for several days, and still haven't caught up on my watchlist. GoingBatty (talk) 01:13, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the FR page with a link to a custom module for you to test all the features of the new logic before it's committed to genfixes. Rjwilmsi 19:09, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great idea - will test this weekend. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:06, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

May the force be with you.

At random hit upon a March then the very next one was May. Thanks for your idea. :) Regards, SunCreator (talk) 02:09, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Without your idea to expand the March rule, none of it would have happened. Happy editing, my typo jedi! GoingBatty (talk) 02:11, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot added unwanted colon

Hi, with this edit (which was admittedly over a week ago), BattyBot inserted an unwanted colon, changing {{FULLPAGENAME}} into {{FULLPAGENAME:}} and breaking the {{Commons category}} in the process. Don't know if you've fixed the bot code or not, nor if there were other instances; but I though that you should be aware. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:36, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, RedRose64! I'm guessing this is an AWB bug, but I want to do some testing next week to confirm before reporting. I won't be running my bot until I investigate. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 22:27, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I processed the article again using the new version of AWB, and it does not add the unwanted colon. The bot account just uses AWB's general fixes to remove the bot tag. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:00, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AWB rev8267

New snapshot is up. older version was too slow while dealing with Images. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:53, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for identifying and fixing the slowness problem, and for letting me know about the new version! GoingBatty (talk) 01:04, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BattyBot: Task 9 false positives

BattyBot seems to have encountered a large number of Task 9 false positives on April 2, 2012. It erroneously identified numerous userbox and user categories as article categories and converted the categories to links. See [1][2][3][4][5][6]. I have fixed these six instances, but there appear to be more: [7][8][9][10].

If the bot code has been corrected, could you have BattyBot re-do its April 2 run and revert itself where it made a mistake? Thanks, -- Black Falcon (talk) 18:38, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Black Falcon! I haven't found a way to ensure the bot can accurately do the task unsupervised, so I look at each edit before saving, which means I haven't run it very much since the conversation at User talk:BattyBot#Bot changing things_on user's sandbox. Wouldn't a mass revert require new logic and a new BRFA? GoingBatty (talk) 03:41, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I manually reverted the four examples you provided above. GoingBatty (talk) 03:45, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All Things Must Pass

Hi GoingBatty. I remember you taking part in a recent Harrison discussion, so If you felt like adding to one I've started, regarding changes to the All Things Must Pass album article, it would be much appreciated. Cheers, JG66 (talk) 11:26, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some minor changes to the article, and posted to the talk page. Thanks for the invite! GoingBatty (talk) 17:22, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, quite some time ago, you made a request on fr:Discussion utilisateur:NicoV/Wikipedia Cleaner. I've finally made some modifications for this. IS it ok ? I think it requires some testing, I only tested it with 1269. --NicoV (talk) 11:16, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, NicoV. It will be a few days before I get back to my PC. I look forward to testing it soon. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:04, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just had a chance to test version 1.15, and it's much better. Two suggestions:
1. Since {{dn}} and {{ambiguous link}} redirect to {{disambiguation needed}}, I don't see why it is valuable to present three options. It would be one less click if it always used {{disambiguation needed}}.
2. Instead of adding {{disambiguation needed}}, could it add {{disambiguation needed|date={{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}}} instead?
Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:50, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the parameter name, you need to configure 2 parameters for this to work correctly: dab_ask_help_templates_after for every template that you can use in WPCleaner after a disambiguation link to request for help, and dab_help_asked_templates_after for every template that can be used to request for help (to detect them). I've made a basic configuration for enwiki, but you should probably add a few templates. --NicoV (talk) 22:12, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for making these changes. I would test them out, but I'm getting an Application Error stating "Unable to launch the application." GoingBatty (talk) 22:19, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Strange, everything works for me. Any more detail on the error ? --NicoV (talk) 04:43, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Seems a Java cache problem, can you try clearing the java web start cache, or uninstalling/installing WPCleaner ? --NicoV (talk) 05:09, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Newbie Question

Hey there Batty.

A noob question. After adding the references to a page[[11]], will BattyBot be returning to take its unreferenced tag off? Thanks.--Misha Atreides (talk) 15:32, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Misha! BattyBot only changes {{unreferenced}} to {{refimprove}}, as it did on this edit to Joy: A Holiday Collection. However, I don't think a bot can tell when an article is fully referenced, so a human will have to remove {{refimprove}} when appropriate. Thanks for asking! GoingBatty (talk) 20:03, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification, Batty! --Misha Atreides (talk) 02:40, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some baklava for you!

Could you tell me how to create my page with a step by step direction? Kelenna (talk) 23:11, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Kelenna! If you're interested in creating your own user page (i.e. User:Kelenna), I suggest copying formats you like from other editors. (Just make sure you don't copy any awards or other info that doesn't relate to you.) You can then look at the code that creates each item to decide what you want to keep and what you don't.
If you're interested in creating an article, I suggest you look at Wikipedia:Your first article. And again, you can copy the code from a related page and populate it with the appropriate info. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:23, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Caritas Ticino

Hi, I don't think it is still a orphan page because I link it to Eugenio Corecco article and viceversa. It's actually the best I can do. Thanks for suggesting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fracati2 (talkcontribs) 13:27, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, so I removed the orphan parameter from the multiple issues tag (and made a few other minor changes). Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:01, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
