On Saturday, September 1, 2012, The Band Perry took the stage at the Maryland State Fair only for the concert to be cancelled a few songs into the set. The 3,000 fans who showed up to see the concert were evacuated by police order from the outdoor field when a thunderstorm struck. The fans stood in the rain or took cover at teh stadium seating for the horsetrack where the outdoor concert was held. Although lightning still flashed above, when the rain stopped some fans were ushered into the arena, only to be sent back out to wait for another thunderstorm to pass. The Band Perry finally took the stage an hour and a half after the concert was supposed to begin, but left the stage abruptly without even saying goodnight or thank you. On Sunday, September 2, 2012, The Band once again showed insensitivity to fans in tweeting "the weather was terrible last night" although the fans stood in that terrible thunderstorm while The Band was cozy in their trailers. Many of the fans do not follow twitter, and as neither the distibuter nor Maryland State Fair has issued an email, many of the fans who waited for hours in the rain will not be notified of the follow up concert.

The Band Perry, an American country music group, is composed of siblings Kimberly Perry (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Reid Perry (bass guitar, background vocals), and Neil Perry (mandolin, drums, accordion, background vocals). They signed to Republic Nashville in August 2009 and have released five singles: "Hip to My Heart" (November 2009), "If I Die Young" (June 2010), "You Lie" (January 2011), "All Your Life" (August 2011), and "Postcard from Paris" (March 2012). All five songs are included on the band's self-titled debut album, released October 12, 2010. "If I Die Young" reached No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs and Adult Contemporary charts and has been certified quadruple platinum.[1]

History

The Perry siblings began singing when they were just kids. They grew up in Alabama; however, they claim Greeneville, Tennessee, as their hometown.[2] Kimberly was born on July 12, 1983; Reid on November 17, 1988; and Neil on July 23, 1990.[3] Kimberly Perry sang in her own band as a teenager with her brothers Neil and Reid working as roadies.[4] At ages 8 and 10, the brothers began performing as an opening act, the Mobile Music Machines, for Kimberly.[5] Once they had united to form The Band Perry, they joined a New Faces of Country tour in 2005.[4][6] Their father's name is Steve, but despite persistant rumors to the contrary, he is not the same Steve Perry that was the former lead singer of the band Journey. They've also been frequently confused as being related to actor Luke Perry and guitarist Joe Perry, though they are related to neither. [7] In 2008, they were discovered by Garth Brooks's manager Bob Doyle, who helped them make recordings that were sent to Scott Borchetta, head of the newly established Republic Nashville label. They signed to Republic Nashville in August 2009 and released their debut single "Hip to My Heart".[8] All three members wrote it with Brett Beavers. The song peaked at No. 20 on the country chart. A self-titled extended play followed in April.[9]

After "Hip to My Heart" fell from the charts, The Band Perry released their second single, "If I Die Young", which Kimberly wrote single-handedly. "If I Die Young" and "Hip to My Heart" are on the band's self-titled debut album, released on October 12, 2010. The album was produced by Paul Worley and Nathan Chapman.[6][8] "If I Die Young" reached No. 1 on the country music chart, and No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The album's third single, "You Lie", was written by Brian Henningsen, Aaron Henningsen, and Clara Henningsen. It debuted in December 2010 and hit No. 2 in 2011. After it, "All Your Life" reached number 1 in February 2012, and "Postcard from Paris" reached number 6. As of June, 2012 the album had sold 1.3 million copies.[10]

In mid-2012, the band began working with producer Rick Rubin on their second album.[11]
