The new, air-conditioned bus interchange of Ang Mo Kio is located within AMK Hub.

Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 Temporary Bus Interchange, beside Block 701. It started operations in March 2002, and ended operations in April 2007.

Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange is located in Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, Singapore. The interchange is presently within AMK Hub, a newly-built shopping centre which is in turn linked to Ang Mo Kio via a pedestrian underpass below Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.

The interchange is the third to be fully air-conditioned in Singapore and the second bus interchange along the North South Line to be air-conditioned after the Toa Payoh Bus Interchange and the Sengkang Bus Interchange, and similarly features automated sliding doors at each of its six berths that will open only when the bus reaches the berths.

History

The original bus interchange was opened in April 1983 as Ang Mo Kio New Town slowly expanded since the late 1970s. Buses originally berthed at elongated bus stops outside Blk 322 along Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, which is right opposite the present-day Ang Mo Kio Bus Ave 5 Interchange. Feeder service 269 was inaugurated together with the opening of this interchange.

The bus interchange was relocated to a temporary structure at the other end of Ang Mo Kio Town Centre nearby to the Ang Mo Kio Community Library on 24 March 2002 when the old 18-year-old interchange building was demolished to make way for the development of AMK Hub. The temporary bus interchange was originally intended to be operational for two years, but continued to operate at its site for an additional two years due to a delay in the construction of the AMK Hub when its earlier contractor went bust right after the demolition of the old bus interchange.

All the routes for the 15 bus services (14 SBS Transit Bus Services and 1 SMRT Bus Service) that terminates in Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange were relocated to the new bus interchange built within AMK Hub on 28 April 2007, with all of these buses skipping a pair of bus stops outside Ang Mo Kio and Jubilee Square as a result.
