Revision as of 23:44, 29 April 2013

I am new to wikipedia, and completely confused about uploading a photograph. It is my own photograph, but it is of a public building (a nonprofit museum). Just the outside of the building. Do I need some type of license to upload the photograph?

Adding references can be easy

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "Templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the web URL (or "website link") becomes inactive in the future.
  4. Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
  5. Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
  6. Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.
  • Before clicking on Save page, check that a References header   ==References==   is near the end of the article.
  • And check that   {{Reflist}}    is directly underneath that header.
7.  Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

You can read more about this on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv.
Hope this helps, --Gtwfan52 (talk) 05:25, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your question at Teahouse and I thought that I would try to give you some help. Above you will find a handy dandy little guide for the correct way to format references on Wikipedia. What Cullen told you at Teahouse about the notability of elementary schools is spot on. Generally, elementary schools do not get articles on Wikipedia unless they are historically or architecturally significant. I see reference to a NRHP nomination. If the place has been actually placed on the NRHP, you will have an article, no problem. I would suggest that you go to Wikiproject NRHP and make use of their article guidelines and especially the nifty tool they have for creating an infobox for the article. I have added that infobox for you and incorporated the photo you had in the lede into it. However, if the school has only been nominated and not yet accepted, you do not yet have an article. You will if and when the nomination gets accepted.

I am not at all following what the numbers in brackets that you have placed in the article are supposed to be linking to. I am guessing that you were trying to do referencing, but as you can see above, that is automated for you if you do it the standard way. That really needs to get straightened out.

If you look in the section titled Architecture, you will notice I formatted a few wikilinks for you to show you how. (Spanish revival architecture, transom, and corbelling). when you use a rather obscure term like corbelling, you should wikilink it so the average reader can find out easily what it means.

I am on and off Wikipedia, but if you leave me a note on my talk page, I will be happy to try to help you in any way I can. If you clean up the article, it should be good to go. NHRP sites are automatically notable. Gtwfan52 (talk) 05:25, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gina

Thanks for your comments on my talk page, Gina, and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't have time to respond at length right now, but please feel free to ask questions on my talk page or at the Teahouse at any time. If you need a really quick answer, the Teahouse is best, but I get an email if you post on my talk page and will try to respond promptly.

You may also find WP:PRIMER to be useful. It is an unofficial beginner's guide, written by another editor I know, with input from many others.

I hope that you will stick around. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:50, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

regarding your most recent edit

Hi, Gina. When you cite a book, you should use the cite book template mentioned in the instructions above. Please be sure to include the ISBN number. Keep up the good work. The Wiki editing interface is anything but user-friendly. You are doing the right thing by asking questions when you have problems. Gtwfan52 (talk) 04:59, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation

Image problem

Hello Gina,

You had "File:File:" in the image description. You only need to say "File:" once, or the software gets confused. I removed the extra characters, and the photo of the outside of the building shows now. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:45, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page suggestion

Hello Gina,

I responded to you latest message on my talk page. I appreciate your kind words, and wish you well.

Here's a suggestion: At the top of every active talk page is a menu bar, and one of the choices is "New section". When you want to discuss a new topic with another editor, click that choice. Then, add a descriptive name in the box that says "Subject/headline". Then, type your message in the edit box. Always finish with four tildes, like this "~~~~". Those squigglies sign your username, and date stamp it. This will make it much easier for other editors to keep track of what you have to say.

Please stick around. You have a lot to offer Wikipedia, and you are learning fast. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:04, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just replied to you on my page, but how about we move this to the article Talk page? It'll be more convenient. Revent (talk) 21:29, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I dug it out of history real quick and put it back. :) Revent (talk) 22:19, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And fixed the infobox (the braces were backwards). Get back to work! :P Revent (talk) 22:28, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
When we're done, if you want to give me a WP:STAR that's the WP way of showing appreciation, FYI. Not a hint (not a biggie to me) but I figured you didn't know. :) Revent (talk) 22:36, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article I linked explains it and lists em. You put it on someone's talk page. Revent (talk) 22:44, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! :) Revent (talk) 22:58, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

you're welcome, you deserve it!

So, how does the article look? Are you sick of me yet? I honestly don't know how all of you helpers do this. How do you have time? Why do you do it?

Moi? TBH, I'm a disabled vet, so I'm around a lot, and I'm doing other stuff too. :) Let me go look. Revent (talk) 23:33, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
