Fifth Harmony are an American five-piece girl group formed in 2012, consisting of members Camila Cabello, Normani Hamilton, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Hernandez and Dinah Jane Hansen.[1] They were formed exclusively for the second season of The X Factor, where they finished in 3rd position. Following their success, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records and also L.A. Reid's record label Epic Records.[2]

History

2012: Formation and The X Factor

Fifth Harmony is comprised of 5 solo artists who met during boot camp for the second season of The X Factor (U.S. TV series). The members of the group are Dinah Jane Hansen, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Normani Hamilton, and Camila Cabello.[3] They successfully auditioned as soloists, but failed to progress individually to the judges' homes. They were later formed as a group by Simon Cowell, thus qualifying for the "Groups" category. The group was originally called Lylas, but then they changed to 1432, before finally being named Fifth Harmony after Simon decided for fans to choose the name. They finished 3rd behind Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens[2] and become the first group to ever become the Top 3 of the competition.

Fifth Harmony (formerly LYLAS and 1432) performed the following songs on The X Factor:[4]

2013-present

In 2013, the group signed with Epic Records run by former X Factor mentor L.A. Reid along with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music. The signing caused several Twitter trends and their fan base is often referred to as “Harmonizers”. The group was voted as the Next Pop Superstar of 2013 by Popdust Magazine[5] and since being voted off The X Factor has covered the song Thinkin Bout You by Frank Ocean, American by Lana Del Rey,[6] Lego House by Ed Sheeran,[7] Stay by Rihanna[8] and Red by Taylor Swift. Their debut album is scheduled to be released in fall 2013 and is being produced by Julian Bunetta who also worked with One Direction.[9] The album is said to have Demi Lovato who will perform a single with the group[10] as well as collaborations with Autumn Rowe and Lil' Eddie.[11]

Just recently she was competing in the Miss Texas beauty pageant and made it all the way to the finals but instead insisted on competing for The X Factor.[12][13] Other reports indicated Normani Kordei and The X Factor teens category Arin Ray's "friendship" caused a feud with the producers of The X Factor and Cowell, stating that it's against the rules for any contestant to be in a relationship prior to the show.[14][15][16]
