Parner, is an historic town in Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra, India. It is the headquarters town for Parner Taluka. 'Parner' was named after Rishi Parashar, whose son Maharishi Ved Vyas wrote famous epic "Mahabharat".

Geography

The town of Parner is located at coordinates 19° 0' 0" North, 74° 26' 0" East,[1] at an altitude of about 790 metres (2,592 ft).

Prominent Personalities

  • Senapati Pandurang Mahadev Bapat (November 12, 1880 – November 28, 1967) was revolutionary & Indian freedom fighter. He was born in Parner village.
  • Dr. Ramchandra Maharaj Parnerkar, founder of Shree Poornavadi Pariwar his niive place is parner. Every year thousands of followers gather at parner for GURU-SHISHYA melawa. (Union of teacher and followers) his PhD thesis of Poornawad is a classic work in economics and its been studied by numerous Indian and foreign universities. His successor Adv. Shree. Vishnu Maharaj Parnerkar now carry out all these activities and praches thesis.[2]
  • Shri Anna Hazare, veteran Socialist, hails from famous Ideal village of "Ralegan Siddhi" which is located in Parner Tahshil.
  • Sant Niloba rai, hailing from Pimpalner near Raleagn Siddhi, stayed for some time here in Parner in pursuit of his spiritual attainments. He is the one who dared ask Lord Vitthal to go back as he had asked not Him but his perceived Guru Saint Tukaram to appear before him.
  • Ganapat Baba Atmadnyani of Vadgaon Savtaal (Karmabhumi) was born in Vadgaon Amali near Ahemednagar, was one of the Jewels of Parner, a Self-Realised Soul, blessed by Datt-Savtaal. He led his life of a spiritual authority, blessed with Vak-Siddhi (whatever he "said"..happened) worked for benevelence of Society. He left behind a legacy of his spiritual experiences in form of a book titled "Parakh Pad"(meaning the scripts based on self-experience)which is an equivalent of "Amrutanubhav" of Sant Gyaneshwar.
  • Sant Hirabai (Borhade) of Vadner (near Nighoj) is an unimaginable life blessed by Adiguru Dattatreya. (to be further added....).
  • Parner happens to be one of the Most fortunate and auspicious place to have been blessed by Sakshat Swaroop of Adishkati - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, founder of Sahajayoga (www.sahajayoga.org) when She came to Parner in year 1983 on insistence of State Bank Officer Shri. Bawale and hold a Public Program in Bakhal (बखळ) to give Self-Realization to residents of Parner. The land of Bakhal is manifesting the Divine vibrations (Param-chaitanya) even today !
