Nobots

(See also Portal talk:Current events/Archive 7) The nobots template was added to this page to prevent interwiki-bots from updating it, back when the syntax was different, and the page unprotected (and when we had interwikis and interwiki bots).

Now those things have changed, can we remove the template? All the best: Rich Farmbrough03:17, 20 April 2014 (UTC).

THe portal has been vandalized and the current day's news is missing.Loftwyr (talk) 17:42, 8 May 2014 (UTC) Loftwyr (talk) 17:42, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed it (though it looks like it stayed there for about an hour!). It wasn't the main portal page, but the May 8 page that was vandalized (which is unprotected); it was a bit trickier to get to, since the vandal (wisely?) removed the header! 92.239.95.125 (talk) 18:13, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Loftwyr: Thanks for drawing attention to this. For next time, note that there are extra links to each day's news at the top of this talk page, so even if a box is blanked or damaged it can still be edited from there. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:28, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Weekend updates/or lack thereof

I find it a sad state of affairs that in the age of '24/7 news cycles'[which aren't anymore] the current event section goes flat on weekends. There is no excuse other than plain laziness to kick the can. Our media [read news and weather information services] were far more on top of their game in bringing us 'instant/embedded' news and weather forecasting accurate out past seven days! Somewhere ratings, and entertainment, and thrift have left weekends an information wasteland. If the Second Coming, Alien Contact, or World War III happens Saturday night... don't expect to hear about it until the following Monday. And I'm quite disappointed that Wikipedia current event editors have fallen into the same pattern. It is disgusting that over the past 15 years as more people have access to information the more trivially it is driven. Feed the lemming masses trending nonsense while the world as we know it circles the drain. Doyna Yar (talk) 04:53, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is news that Rupert Loewenstein, former manager of The Rolling Stones, has died. The problem is, he has no article and even the Rolling Stones article does not mention him. Any ideas why? It Is Me Here t / c 14:20, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bowe Bergdahl?

Bowe Bergdahl was released from Taliban captivity today. I think this should be on the Current Events portal ASAP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeyquism (talkcontribs) 19:08, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This was added to the entry for 31 May about an hour before you requested it.-gadfium 02:26, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why are we getting so much more sports coverage now? I understand that the "elections" (cough, cough) are important, but really, the Indy 500 and other sports tournaments happen once a year. Does Wikipedia really need to provide the same news coverage as the mainstream? Allen750 (talk) 21:24, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editors are volunteers, and they add items according to their own ideas of what is important. While trivia is not wanted here, there is substantial leeway given for good-faith edits. You are welcome to add balance by adding news items yourself, with suitable sources.-gadfium 02:30, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you're talking about the items "In the News" section, they're suggested at WP:ITN/C. Almost all sporting events posted there come from the WP:ITNR list. –HTD 12:56, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
