Manticore or scorpion

There's been a succession of reversions debating whether the creature used in the assessinate attempt to Dany should be called "manticore" or "scorpion". Trut-h-urts man argues that the wiki article for manticore does not reflect what we saw on screen, which is true. It's also true that it wasn't a scorpion either.

The source books clearly identify the creature as a manticore (ACOK, Chapter 63: “He was a Sorrowful Man. There was a manticore in that jewel box he gave me. This man knocked it out of my hand.”), and the descriptions of the book coincide with what we saw onscreen (see at GoT wikia).

My opinion is that we shoul call it manticore as per the world the series are set in, but without linking it to the manticore article because this is a more realistic version that the classical mithoogical one. Thoughts? --RR (talk) 08:07, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is not a manticore. Until the show says it is/was (which presumably it could, seeing as it's a fantasy series and doesn't have to play by the rules) we should call it a "creature" , a nice neutral term. Please don't take my reverts of "manticore" to "scorpion" as an endorsement of "scorpion" - it really only looks like one. The series (which is based on the books, not an exact word-for-word copy of the novels) can have a different creature try to kill her, just like the books had Barristan masquerading as a guy named Arstan Whitebeard until much later.
