Ash vs. Evil Dead is an upcoming American horror comedy television series created by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell for the Starz network. It is set in the Evil Dead franchise and serves as a sequel to The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness.

The series stars Campbell reprising his role as Ash Williams from the Evil Dead films and video games. Jill Marie Jones, Ray Santiago, Dana Delorenzo and Lucy Lawless also star. The series is executive produced by Campbell, Raimi and Rob Tapert who originally produced the first film.[3] The series is set to premiere on October 31, 2015.[4]

Cast

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Campbell stated that: "Ash has survivor’s guilt. You could have a heyday with his PTSD. He’s a war vet. He continues being a trash-talking know-it-all who doesn't really know anything.[5] He’s the ultimate anti-hero. He’s kind of an idiot, but man, if I had to go to battle, I’d want to be next to that guy, because he’ll bring it if he has to." Variety quotes executive producer Sam Raimi as saying “Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it”.
An idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick – a Sancho Panza to Ash’s Don Quixote. Pablo believes in Ash’s heroism even if Ash himself doesn’t.
  • Dana Delorenzo as Kelly Maxwell[8]
A moody wild child trying to outrun her past. Reluctantly dragged into the fight against Evil with Ash and Pablo, Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers.

Production

It was revealed at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con that director Sam Raimi was developing an Evil Dead television series. It is being written by Raimi, his brother Ivan Raimi, and long-time film collaborator and friend Bruce Campbell with the plan for Campbell to star in the series. This was further confirmed by Campbell at Ohio Comic-Con 2014.[8] In 2015, an older Ash Williams will appear as the main character in Ash vs. Evil Dead, a horror comedy series for Starz. This will continue Ash's story long after the film trilogy. Raimi will direct the first episode of the series and the show will be written by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy. Original film series producer Rob Tapert is returning to co-produce along with Raimi and Campbell.[11] So far one season of Ash vs. Evil Dead consisting of 10 episodes (30 minutes each) have been ordered by Starz.[12] On February 11, 2015, Ray Santiago and Dana Delorenzo were cast in the roles of Pablo Simon Bolivar and Kelly Maxwell.

The series details reads "Campbell reprises his role as Ash, the aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal."[7][8] The series is set to start filming in the spring of 2015 in New Zealand.[8] The pilot episode of the series was written by Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio and Tom Spezialy. It is set with Sam Raimi to direct.[11] In February 2015, Starz confirmed that Jill Marie Jones will be playing the leading role of Michigan State Trooper Amanda Fisher.[6] In March 2015, Lucy Lawless will co-star as Ruby, a mysterious figure who's on a quest to stop the evil outbreak and believes that Ash is the one who's the cause of it.[9] In April 2015, Starz released a new graphic teaser advertising the TV show is coming in the Fall of 2015, along with a new poster for the series.[13]
