''Backstage'' follows a group of outstandingly talented teenagers as they live through the highs and lows that come with attending the prestigious Keaton School of the Arts, an arts school and a key to their future and rise to their stardom, from the angst and disappointments to the new friendships and crowning achievements. Through diary-style confessionals and dramatic cliffhangers, ''Backstage'' will lift the curtain on these would-be stars as they chase their dreams and deal with the day-to-day reality of being a student, a sister, a son, a brother, a daughter, a boyfriend or a girlfriend, and a teenager. However, only a few of them can make it to the graduation. |

== Characters == |
||
* Devyn Nekoda |
* Vanessa (Devyn Nekoda) is a ballet dancer. Vanessa attends Keaton upon insistence from her best friend, Carly. Although their friendship hits a few snags when Vanessa is chosen to dance with the Primas, the best dancers in the school, they care about each other deeply and are always there to support one another. She's also known by her nickname, Vee. |
||
* Alyssa Trask |
* Carly (Alyssa Trask) is a ballet dancer. Carly is close friends with Vanessa and begs her to join Keaton with her. Although Vanessa thinks highly of Carly's dance skills, Carly doesn't and believes Vanessa to be much better than her. She's also known by her nickname, Cee. |
||
* Josh Bogert |
* Miles (Josh Bogert) is a music student. He plays guitar, percussion, and can also sing. He has a rare form of kidney disease. Despite being considered attractive by a large majority of the girls in school and seen as pretentious by several others, he's quiet and a little shy, though he shows special interest in Alya. |
||
* Aviva Mongillo |
* Alya (Aviva Mongillo) is a music student. She plays guitar and sings. She also has a low self-esteem, fueled by teasing from Bianca. She is friends with Miles and has a small crush on him. |
||
* Matthew Isen |
* Jax (Matthew Isen) is music student. He is a self-proclaimed professional deejay, by the name of DJ G. He tends to be a bit self-centered and easily offended, feeling slighted when Miles gets away with things he is punished for. He also doesn't work well with others. |
||
* Julia Tomasone |
* Bianca (Julia Tomasone) is a music student and a singer. Bianca is an actress from a number of shows, most recently Chase on ''Chase and Chance''. Because of this, she believes herself to be above the rest of the students of Keaton, only attending to better herself and not because she needs to learn anything. |
||
* Adrianna Di Liello |
* Jenna (Adrianna Di Liello) is a dance student. Jenna is one of the first people to meet Carly and Vanessa and is partnered with Vanessa by Helsweel. |
||
* Colin Petierre |
* Sasha (Colin Petierre) is a dance student. Sasha has taken Helsweel's class before and has learned how to figure out her compliments disguised as insults. He also is responsible for TMK, Keaton's gossip blog. |
||
* [[Mckenzie Small]] |
* Scarlett ([[Mckenzie Small]]) is a tenth-grade music student and a singer. Scarlett is called Scarlett the Starlet by most students of Keaton and considered one of the most talented singers at the school. She is also somewhat of a control freak, which causes trouble between her and Julie, who is similarly bossy. |
||
* Romy Weltman |
* Kit (Romy Weltman) is a music and an art student. Kit is a producer, considered talented by even Jax, and an artist. She is friends with Denzel, as they both have the same art and production classes. |
||
* Isiah Hall |
* Denzel (Isiah Hall) is a visual arts student. Denzel is a producer and an artist and close friends with Kit. |
||
* Kyal Legend |
* Julie (Kyal Legend) is the student body president. Julie is responsible for the freshman orientation, though it's usually a failure due to her being a control freak. She shows up to school dressed in different costumes every day and is considered an amazing artist. |
||
* Chris Hoffman |
* Park (Chris Hoffman) is the music teacher. Unlike Helsweel, Park shows compassion toward his students. |
||
* Jane Moffat |
* Helsweel (Jane Moffat) is the dance teacher. Helsweel is harsh and rather emotionless, making vaguely nice statements as opposed to directly complimenting her students. She is also considered scary by several students, including Sasha, even though he's worked with her before. |

Backstage is a Canadian teen drama series, which has been commissioned by DHX Media. It is created and produced by Fresh TV. The premiere of the series was on the Family Channel in Canada on March 18, 2016. In the United States, the series premiered on the Disney Channel on March 25, 2016.
The Disney Channel secured the license for series in several countries in Europe, Africa, and the Middle-East as well as for the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.[1]
Plot
Backstage follows a group of outstandingly talented teenagers as they live through the highs and lows that come with attending the prestigious Keaton School of the Arts, an arts school and a key to their future and rise to their stardom, from the angst and disappointments to the new friendships and crowning achievements. Through diary-style confessionals and dramatic cliffhangers, Backstage will lift the curtain on these would-be stars as they chase their dreams and deal with the day-to-day reality of being a student, a sister, a son, a brother, a daughter, a boyfriend or a girlfriend, and a teenager. However, only a few of them can make it to the graduation.
Production
Actors in the series are all real dancers and musicians embodying the true spirit of the performing arts.[2]
Directors for the series include top music video directors such as RT!, Director X, Wendy Morgan, and Warren Sonoda as well as Mario Azzopardi and Lara Azzopardi.
Characters
- Vanessa (Devyn Nekoda) is a ballet dancer. Vanessa attends Keaton upon insistence from her best friend, Carly. Although their friendship hits a few snags when Vanessa is chosen to dance with the Primas, the best dancers in the school, they care about each other deeply and are always there to support one another. She's also known by her nickname, Vee.
- Carly (Alyssa Trask) is a ballet dancer. Carly is close friends with Vanessa and begs her to join Keaton with her. Although Vanessa thinks highly of Carly's dance skills, Carly doesn't and believes Vanessa to be much better than her. She's also known by her nickname, Cee.
- Miles (Josh Bogert) is a music student. He plays guitar, percussion, and can also sing. He has a rare form of kidney disease. Despite being considered attractive by a large majority of the girls in school and seen as pretentious by several others, he's quiet and a little shy, though he shows special interest in Alya.
- Alya (Aviva Mongillo) is a music student. She plays guitar and sings. She also has a low self-esteem, fueled by teasing from Bianca. She is friends with Miles and has a small crush on him.
- Jax (Matthew Isen) is music student. He is a self-proclaimed professional deejay, by the name of DJ G. He tends to be a bit self-centered and easily offended, feeling slighted when Miles gets away with things he is punished for. He also doesn't work well with others.
- Bianca (Julia Tomasone) is a music student and a singer. Bianca is an actress from a number of shows, most recently Chase on Chase and Chance. Because of this, she believes herself to be above the rest of the students of Keaton, only attending to better herself and not because she needs to learn anything.
- Jenna (Adrianna Di Liello) is a dance student. Jenna is one of the first people to meet Carly and Vanessa and is partnered with Vanessa by Helsweel.
- Sasha (Colin Petierre) is a dance student. Sasha has taken Helsweel's class before and has learned how to figure out her compliments disguised as insults. He also is responsible for TMK, Keaton's gossip blog.
- Scarlett (Mckenzie Small) is a tenth-grade music student and a singer. Scarlett is called Scarlett the Starlet by most students of Keaton and considered one of the most talented singers at the school. She is also somewhat of a control freak, which causes trouble between her and Julie, who is similarly bossy.
- Kit (Romy Weltman) is a music and an art student. Kit is a producer, considered talented by even Jax, and an artist. She is friends with Denzel, as they both have the same art and production classes.
- Denzel (Isiah Hall) is a visual arts student. Denzel is a producer and an artist and close friends with Kit.
- Julie (Kyal Legend) is the student body president. Julie is responsible for the freshman orientation, though it's usually a failure due to her being a control freak. She shows up to school dressed in different costumes every day and is considered an amazing artist.
- Park (Chris Hoffman) is the music teacher. Unlike Helsweel, Park shows compassion toward his students.
- Helsweel (Jane Moffat) is the dance teacher. Helsweel is harsh and rather emotionless, making vaguely nice statements as opposed to directly complimenting her students. She is also considered scary by several students, including Sasha, even though he's worked with her before.
Episodes
- Mckenzie Small, Romy Weltman, Isiah Hall, and Chris Hoffman are absent for one episode each.
- Kyal Legend and Jane Moffat are absent for two episodes each.
