H. Raja (b.1957) is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu affiliated to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He graduated from Madurai Kamaraj University. A practicing chartered accountant, Raja is a law graduate and had represented Member of the Legislative Assembly (India) of Karaikudi in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2006. [4] He is the present national secretary of the Bhartiya Janata Party. [5]
Political career
H. Raja is a native of Karaikudi, he was a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist before he joined the BJP in 1989. [6] He also heads the Passenger Amenties Committee, which approved the printing of passenger train tickets in regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and Odiya. [7]
He supports Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He actively participates in debates and explains the welfare schemes of Government of India, such as Make in India, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (aims at benefitting seven crore entrepreneurs with more than Rs 1.22 lakh crore had been set apart to provide aid to unemployed youth through banks to take up ventures), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (Poor man's friendly scheme with more than 20 crore bank accounts had been opened), [8] Atal Pension Yojana [9] and Selva Magal Savings scheme ((தமிழ்:செல்வ மகள் சேமிப்பு திட்டம்) Sukanya Samriddhi Account) . [10]
Railway Board
H. Raja is the president of Railway Board, which addresses the grievances of the passengers and ensures the cleanliness, hygiene and safety of the passengers.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly
H.Raja had represented as MLA of Karaikudi in the Tamil Nadu Assembly from 2001 to 2006. [11]

2016 Assembly elections
The BJP and its allies contested without the alliance of DMK and ADMK. Raja himself contested in T. Nagar assesmbly constituency and gained 19,888 votes despite stiff opposition. [12]
Lok Sabha Elections
Despite prominent political parties in Tamilnadu, the BJP led rainbow alliance was able to significantly gain 18.5% vote in tamilnadu. [13] H. Raja himself contested in Sivaganga Parliament constituency and gained 1,33,763 votes. [14] He was runner up in the 2014 parliament elections at Sivaganga. [15] The BJP party performed better in the elections and was able to be runner up in ten seats out of the thirty nine constituencies apart from winning two seats.

Raja Sharma contested for the post of Chairman of Tamil Nadu Bharat Scouts and Guides in 2017 and was able to get only 52 votes. [16]
Personal
Raja, a native of Thanjavur, was a lawyer and a practising chartered accountant before he entered politics. Schooled in RSS ideologies since childhoood, he joined the BJP in the 1980's and went on to assume several roles - district convenor in 1991, followed by state secretary , state general secretary and then three years ago, national secretary. [17]
