The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is scheduled to take place in May 2018 at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in England. The groom, Prince Harry, is the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. The bride, Meghan Markle, is an American actress.

Couple

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is scheduled to take place in May 2018. The groom, Prince Harry, is the second son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, and fifth in line to succeed his paternal grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.[notes 1][1][2] The bride, Meghan Markle, is an American actress.[3]

The couple have been in a relationship since June 2016, first acknowledged on 8 November 2016, an official statement was released from the royal family's communications secretary addressing the "wave of abuse and harassment" directed toward Markle that followed the announcement of her relationship with Prince Harry.[4]

Markle will be the second American and the first person of mixed race heritage to marry into the British royal family.[notes 2][5] Following the wedding, the couple will live in Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.[6]

Engagement Announcement

On 27 November 2017, it was announced that Markle and Prince Harry had become engaged and would marry in early 2018.[6] The following day the date and place of the wedding were announced as May 2018 and St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.[7]

The engagement announcement prompted much comment about the possible social significance of Meghan Markle becoming a proudly mixed-race[8] royal.[9][10][11][12]

Wedding

While the wedding is expected by experts to cost around half a million pounds,[13] the royal family have announced they will pay for the wedding.[14]

The British government has stated the wedding day is not planned to be a bank holiday, as was done for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.[15]
