Is it accurate to describe John Dicken's salary as "meager?" According to Les Standiford in The Man Who Invented Christmas, John Dicken's salary as a navel clerk was easily enough to support his family in middle-class comfort.

    These London Gazette search results should contain the official notices relating to his bankruptcy and so on. It looks like the issues were ongoing as late as 1848, and also his address then is given as Hampstead, not Devon. David Underdown (talk) 16:12, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
