Local elections in the United Kingdom are scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2019, contesting about 270 English local councils, five directly elected mayors in England, and all 11 local councils in Northern Ireland.
With the exception of those areas that have had boundary changes, the seats up for election in England were last contested in the 2015 local elections.
Voters
All registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who will be aged 18 or over on the day of the election are entitled to vote in the local elections.[dubious – discuss]

In England, council elections are to be held in 33 metropolitan boroughs, 179 of the second-tier districts, 47 of the unitary authorities, as well as for five directly elected mayoral posts. Most English local councils will be holding elections, with the exception of eight unitary authorities, 13 non-metropolitan districts and boroughs, three metropolitan boroughs and the 32 London boroughs. Elections will also take place for most English parish councils.
Metropolitan boroughs
In 33 of the 36 English metropolitan borough councils one-third of their seats are up for election. Elections will not be held in Birmingham, Doncaster or Rotherham.
