To restore information

Helped
Hi, you have by mistake wiped off major part of Early life paragraph of Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil. Please! restore the information. Thanks. (223.230.133.231 (talk) 08:13, 18 June 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Hi. Not by mistake. The information had no reliable source, and I was not able to find it anywhere. If you can provide me with a reliable source stating the exact location and date of his birth[Note: I had found his date of birth and already added it], I will review it and possibly re-add it. Orville1974 (talk) 10:12, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, I think you are correct. But I found a mistake in Early life paragraph, this is below:

There is a line in early life paragraph that states"After his schooling he pursued 'a' MBBS".How can a person can do 'a' MBBS. Actually it's a degree we can't use 'a' before that.

  • Secodly many people don't know who "Radiologists" are. They might confuse with a radio operator. So, it should indicated in the form of link everywhere in the article.
  • Third, in the occupation column present in the infobox, "Radiologist" &"Entrepreneur" are indicated. Instead of "Entrepreneur", MD of VPS Healthcare should be written.

Thanks. (223.230.133.231 (talk) 10:45, 18 June 2019 (UTC))[reply]

We usually do include an article before a degree. He pursued a master's degree, not he pursued master's degree. So that is correct as stated in the article. Red XN
I added a link to radiology  Done
I tweaked the occupation in the infobox.  Done
Finally, I believe this article is in great shape and accurately describes Shamsheer. I am directing my focus to improving other articles that need more attention.  On hold Orville1974 (talk) 11:12, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry, to disturb you. I know that the article is in great shape but two things are still to be done:

1:) Arrange the information in occupation column serial wise like this:- Red XN

  • Radiologist
  • Chairman and managing director, VPS Healthcare group
  • Philanthropist

2:) Provide the link of VPS Healthcare group in occupation column. So, that it would be easy for the person who is keen to know about the Healthcare group. Red XN
After this article will certainly come in right shape. Thanks. (223.230.142.48 (talk) 13:58, 19 June 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Hi again. There is nothing wrong with the way the information is presented. A link to VPS is present in the article. Orville1974 (talk) 17:10, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sir, have you seen occupation column present in the infobox of Bill Gates article? If you have seen that then you will understand that I have asked you to arrange the occupation column in the same manner as present in Bill Gates article.

I saw that the Bill Gates article is more in shape as compared to Dr. Shamsheer's article. Is this because Bill Gates is more famous than Dr. Shamsheer? I have experienced that editors don't take interest to modify Dr. Shamsheer's article. On the other hand they eagerly modify those articles which are already in great shape. I always feel like discriminated because I ask to modify a particular article. Thanks. (223.230.156.65 (talk) 21:17, 19 June 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Respected sir, you told me on the help desk that after providing reliable references, my request on the Talk page of Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil will be viewed by a team of editors. But no one responded. The section regarding the arrest of the perpetrators and Jenny's role in explaining the prv. events did/does need further detail, and I was intending to expound a little further there. William Woollett

Helped
Thank you for your suggestions. I thought I might have to break it into two articles. How do I move it back to the Sandbox? SoCalArchitect (talk) 02:01, 28 May 2019 (UTC)SoCalArchitect[reply]

William Lee Woollett was the lead designer so the buildings were mostly designed by him. Sometime around after the office moved permanently to Los Angeles in 1921, Woollett and Woollett split, with John Woollett moving to Sacramento to become State Architect. I can't find the exact date. In 1926, William Woollett (William Woollett's son) joined the firm. So from what I can tell, Woollett and Wollett was no longer William and John but William,Sr and William, Jr. (but they didn't call each other Sr & Jr which makes it confusing) The partnership lasted at least until the Great Depression, when almost all building ceased. That is when the father and son published a book of William, Jr's drawings together. There are way too many Wm Wolletts, all of them very talented, it is difficult to keep track as to who did what. Removal of Michael Alberto from the Medford Wikipedia page

Helped
Hello Orville1974,

I'm pretty old and new to Wikipedia, so I didn't know how to message you at first.

You have seemed to remove "Michael Alberto" from the Medford page in error. He is a very successful video editor and frequently interacts with members in our Medford Public Access community. He has achieved over 3 million views on YouTube videos he was edited. I will cite some of them below.

Michael's work (credited in the description): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiUmcSmWmjc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEgS27mWaDY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSbc8w5Kkcg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Qb4m0PDQU8&t=2s Proof he's from Medford: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MetpfzIBEw

If you wouldn't mind readding him soon, that'd be great. If not I can.

Thank you

Uber Section

Helped
Hey Orville,

I consider the uber criticism section very general, is not talking about uber, instead, is talking about the rideshare business in general. However, other pages like Lyft (who has the same problems) remain clean in criticism. This is not neutral/fair, should be changed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.131.163.243 (talk) 07:44, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! The article's title is "Are Taxis Safer Than Uber?" The article is specifically addressing Uber, and yes, it is critical. Have you considered finding a reliable source for an opposing opinion on Uber, or a similar opinion on Lyft? Orville1974 (talk) 07:48, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to KMIR-TV, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Clayton Valley Charter High School Page

Helped
Hello I go to Clayton Valley and I saw that stuff on the page was incorrect specififcally the listing of our principal as John McMorris (which is incorrect as our principal is Jeff Anderson) and the Superintendent is not Dave Linzey (he was the executive director and he was fired)

If you could tell me how to properly cite this information that would be very helpful

Thank You From

Hi, @MaySun18: First off, thank you for editing Wikipedia! To make the changes you'd like to see, you can either click "cite" toward the top of the article while you're editing to include a source (perhaps the school district's website), or you can mention your concern on the article's talk page Talk:Clayton Valley Charter High School, and eventually someone else will come by to fix it. Orville1974 (talk) 01:30, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for including the source information. I cleaned up a broken link in the references and added more content regarding the school in the controversy section. Orville1974 (talk) 02:27, 1 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Resolved

Are you serious nominating Phantom Boy for deletion? Its overwhelmingly notable, a quick Google search will tell you that. Just look at the Rotten Tomatoes page it was reviewed by all of the major newspapers and that's only the American reviews. It should be withdrawn ASAP. Koala15 (talk) 02:36, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the head's up. When I came across the article it was in really bad shape (and was being edited by an undeclared WP:COI). I acted too hastily in discounting its credibility. Another editor has fixed it, and I've requested a speedy keep. Orville1974 (talk) 02:46, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Shapiro Page

Helped
Hello, okay, I am just trying to learn what the rules are and I sincerely appreciate the advice. I added a quote Obama said to his page and someone removed it as they said not every gaffe needs to be mentioned. So I followed that principle and removed a gaffe from Ben Shapiro's page to which people seem to say that is not okay. It seems the rules are only enforced on one side — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dy3o2 (talkcontribs) 05:07, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please follow your comments with 4 of these: ~. It's what creates your signature at the end of your inputs so it's easier for other editors to know who is saying what, and how to contact you. I'll take a look at your edits to see what you're referring to. Orville1974 (talk) 05:10, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dy3o2:, here's my take, for what it's worth. The article on Obama chronicles his entire life, but highlights that he is an attorney, politician, and the 44th president. In that article, there is a small paragraph regarding his stance on gun control. His gaffe did not contradict his stance on gun control, it overstated the simplicity in children purchasing guns. Since his article is not about him being a gun control activist, your addition lends undue weight to his gaffe (see WP:RSUW which will explain this in more detail). On the other hand, the interview with Shapiro was about two major portions of the article (that he is a commentator and author) as Shapiro's notoriety comes from him being "a political commentator, public speaker, author, and lawyer." Contradictions between what he says as a commentator and what he writes as an author, therefore, are quite significant. Orville1974 (talk) 05:27, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dy3o2: I meant to include this source, too: Talk:Ben Shapiro. It's the talk page of the Ben Shapiro article. If you look at both archived pages as well as the current page (the links are in the beige box at the top of the page), you'll see how consensus was reached when editors disagreed about what content should/should not be included in the article. These talk pages are accessible for any article by clicking the Talk tab near the top left of the screen. Orville1974 (talk) 05:35, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the time you took to explain it to me. I just learned about the talk page on articles so I will go that route from now on. I agree that it was fair to remove the portion of Obama's gaffe, but I also think that the BBC interview was not important enough to mention since he has done many interviews, but I will try to talk about it on the talk page. Dy3o2 (talk) 05:41, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Dy3o2: I see you found the talk page and started the conversation. I just put my two cents in. The Ben Shapiro article and it's talk page should now be in your watchlist (links at the very top right of your screen). You can click on the link to see the status of any changes made to pages you've edited (bold means the current edit is yours, an empty dot means no changes have been made since the last time you looked at the page, and a filled dot means there have been changes). It's an easy way to monitor articles you've edited to follow up on their status/talk page conversations/etc.. Orville1974 (talk) 05:53, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen quite a few usernames with aesthetic tweaks such as yours, and I was wondering if you could direct me to a reference that could help me learn to change my own. I've looked in the past, but never managed to turn up anything. Best regards. :) TheTechnician27 (talk) 09:08, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just looked at the source editor of pages when I came across signatures I liked, and copied/mixed/matched elements from the signatures I liked. You can mess around with the stuff you copy in your sandbox to get it to look the way you like. Now, I like the ones I see that look sort of 3D with a shadow behind them, but I'm happy enough with that I have, and can't really be bothered to change it again. Mostly, it's nice to be able to scan a page and be able to quickly find my edits (I picked a color that isn't used often). Orville1974 (talk) 09:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and once you decide on what you like, you paste it into your preferences, user profile, signature with the checkmark for "treat as wikimarkup". Here's one for you to start with TheTechnician27 shout me out
For some reason I couldn't put it into words, but you captured perfectly why this seems useful: being able to scan a page for edits I've made without Ctrl+F would make navigation just that extra bit easier. Also, I realize now that I couldn't find the page because I was searching "username" instead of "signature". Thanks so much for the help! TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 10:14, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To add preposition

☒N Not done and not likely to be done

        Respected sir,
On Shamsheer vayalil's wikipedia infobox the name of two medical colleges are given. First medical college is KASTURBA MEDICAL COLLEGE, MANIPAL and second is SRI RAMACHANDRA MEDICAL COLLEGE AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE,CHENNAI.Before clicking on the link of second college I felt that "Chennai" is a part of college name but it was not so. I think that the comma between the second college name and it's location name should be removed and instead of that preposition ("in") should be added in between them (see early life paragraph there, how the college name and its location are written).
I shall be greatly obliged and thankful to you.
Note: This preposition "in" should be added between "Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute and it's location Chennai" present in infobox(alma mater column).

Thank you!

For now, just sit tight. I've referred the matter to the Copyright Cleanup Unit (CCU), a group of people who are skilled at discerning which edits are copyrighted and removing them from the article's history. In the case of the article specifically, you are to be commended for bring this up, but in a closer look through the history I see that one of the editors who added a massive amount of material to the article has been blocked as a sock account. We need to do a thorough look see and make sure we get it all, and I'd rather get this right the first time then have to keep coming back to it. TomStar81 (Talk) 03:59, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. You'll notice that none of the information in the current article is derived from your website. Self-published sources are not considered reliable for inclusion in Wikipedia, nor is the encyclopedia article intended to be a brochure for the company. That does mean that there is usually a delay between when something happens (like annual revenue changes or business locations), and when (or even if) third-party sources address the changes. When the coverage exists, editors are usually pretty timely about making the changes. Orville1974 (talk) 18:42, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

response to your response to my original question

Thanks, Orville 1974 for answering my questions. I asked how to submit an article and how and what to footnote. Ive written an article about an actress named Susan Angelo who has mainly worked on stage, but who has also worked in film and TV. She has extensive work as a theater administrator and director and educator. She has appeared frequently on stage at Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum near Los Angeles; Wikipedia already has articles about other actors from this theater, as well as the theater itself. Susan helped to create the educational programs at the theater and administered them for several decades. I'm very familiar with Wikipedia's articles about actors, and believe that my article conforms to the model which seems to characterize them. I've also read the guidelines about writing articles, and about citing sources. However, my computer skills are very basic, so my questions to you are technical; I'm confident that the article has a good chance to be accepted, but I literally don't know how to submit it, technically. The issues concerning footnotes are also partly completely technical. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.24.99.241 (talk) 23:28, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

no one has commented on my proposed wording, can you add it in now?Ndołkah (talk) 01:31, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I weighed in on the talk page in a few of the sections. Not yet. It's normally appropriate to wait a week to give people time to read and respond. Orville1974 (talk) 02:20, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your work moderating on this. I like your proposed wording. I highly doubt Clem or Kudpung will chime in, but my talk is a pretty busy place. Someone might have found the discussion there. Waiting a week is prudent. John from Idegon (talk) 06:03, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I'm glad there are so many determined newer editors (I just try to keep them from breaking things, getting banned, or giving up until they figure things out)

This is in regards to your edit of Frank Cifaldi's page. Here's the thing. You don't know Frank and you don't know the path that whole situation set him on.

It is an old situation but relevant nonetheless. Please keep your hands out of things you don't understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.189.33.61 (talk) 21:40, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you're talking about the insertion of defamatory material on a WP:BLP without a source, please "keep your hands" off that article. Orville1974 (talk) 21:59, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need advice

So, the word "dzongkhag" is supposed to be italicized but not in the quotations right? In the Election Act, it isn't it italicized, so it shouldn't it be capitalized in the quote too, right? I'm talking about List of dzongkhags of Bhutan. I'm not really sure. Please help. Regards, TryKid (talk) 20:31, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! @TryKid: I think I fixed the quotes in reference one just now. It's capitalized in the quote because that's the way it is in the source material (Chapter 2, page 20). It's being used as if it were lower case, so I think italics in the quote is fine. Orville1974 (talk) 20:57, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oof. I meant italicized not capitalised. My first message is a mess. Very sorry. So here's the thing. The word "Dzongkhag" is always italicized no matter what. Now since it's always italicized, in the explanatory note (efn), it should be in quotes or something, along with the word "district"? Right? Now, in the second paragraph, it directly quotes material from Election Commission. In the Election Commission material, the word "dzongkhag" isn't italicized, along with some other grammar mistakes. There's a [sic] tag for the grammar mistake. That means we quote the material without change or mistake correction. So in the second paragraph where it quotes "provided that no Dzongkhag shall have less than..." the word "Dzongkhag" shouldn't be italicized since it isn't italicized in the original text. It needs to be de-itlicized, right? And the explanatory footnotes. They were probably correct before you edited them. I've no idea. TryKid (talk) 21:32, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again @TryKid: The manual of style (WP:MOS) allows for minor changes to quotes (even though we're used to hearing, "Don't change enything [sic]!" See what I did there? So on that page, the quote's wording is way off the meaning, but since it's from a legal document, I wasn't comfortable changing it, so I left the odd wording and added [sic]. MOS:SIC talks about what can be changed in direct quotes and what should be left alone: "If there is a significant error in the original statement, use [sic] or the template [sic] (produces a note like [sic] ) to show that the error was not made by Wikipedia." So that's why you see sic in the quote. Toward the bottom of that section, it says: "In direct quotations, retain dialectal and archaic spellings, including capitalization.". The capitalized Dzongkhag might be a style of the language where it's capitalized even when it's use i tn that context in English is not. I know in German, there are a lot of words like that. So I left the capitalization alone, and just italicized it per the manual of style. It's just a style guide, so if you'd like to change it to lowercase, I don't think anyone will find fault with it. The style guide does mention adding [emphasis added] when italicizing something, but I left that off since we're not emphasizing the word, we're just conforming to Wikipedia's requirement that foreign words be in italics. So maybe an emphasis added tag might still be the best way to show why it's capitalized but in italics? You decide and I'll check by in a few days to revert it (jk) Orville1974 (talk) 21:59, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I only "created" the article as a redirect to a notable figure who sometimes used the name. If you delete the article on the Haitian lady (as you perhaps should), please consider keeping the original redirect. Dahn (talk) 05:26, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

salesian template

how do i add the Salesian template to the relevant articles which one do i use?Ndołkah (talk) 05:39, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In the visual editor, select insert template, then type Salesians. In the source editor, it's {{Salesians}}. Orville1974 (talk) 05:41, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ndołkah: I just threw a sort template in it too, so the names come out alphabetically. That's a lot of schools! Orville1974 (talk) 05:59, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes i know they're worldwide with several dozen schools. i actually don't use the visual editor!Ndołkah (talk) 06:07, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I usually use the visual editor when copy editing, and the source editor for templates and tables (and sometimes I'll jump back and forth to see how everything's looking). Orville1974 (talk) 06:11, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
