Abdul Kadar Khatri (1 April 1961 – 12 May 2019) was a prominent Indian Master Craftsman in the sector of Traditional Bagh Hand Block Print known as Bagh Print.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11] He was the son of Ismail Sulemanji Khatri, founder of Bagh print.[12][13][14] He along with his father saved the tradition of Hand Block Printing of Bagh from extinction and taken it to new heights. His artifacts have brought laurels in India and particular in Madhya Pradesh state from across the globe by showcasing his exceptional talent in Bagh Print in countries like Australia, Germany, South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand and Oman.[1][15][16] His family has been working in the trade of Traditional Bagh Hand Block print since 7th century. As he began early in life, his full life was experienced for Bagh Print.[5]

He has a keen ability to develop his own ways to bring his artworks to life through hard work and perseverance. His work was appreciated by eminent personalities like Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, Martand Singh, Laila Tyabji, Ṛta Kapur Chishti and many more eminent personalities of India.[17][18][19][20]

Experiments

Abdul Kadar Khatri experimented incorporating modernity in the wood blocks and colours in such a way that its fame and popularity could be established for a long time on the National and International level. He proved his imagination true by making Craft on Bamboo chik (mat), leather, jute etc besides cloth. Bagh Print was engraved with Natural Colours on Bamboo chik. This was the first experiment of the world which was completed with Natural colours on bamboo. It is notable that before or after popularity of Bagh Print in the world, no example of such kind is recorded. Hence it is the first sample of such art in the world. It is truly a revolutionary invention in India.[4]
